سُبْحَـٰنَsub'ḥāna Exaltedٱلَّذِىٓalladhī (is) the One Whoأَسْرَىٰasrā tookبِعَبْدِهِۦbiʿabdihi His servantلَيْلًۭاlaylan (by) nightمِّنَmina fromٱلْمَسْجِدِl-masjidi Al-Masjid Al-Haraamٱلْحَرَامِl-ḥarāmi Al-Masjid Al-Haraamإِلَىilā toٱلْمَسْجِدِl-masjidi Al-Masjid Al-Aqsaٱلْأَقْصَاl-aqṣā Al-Masjid Al-Aqsaٱلَّذِىalladhī whichبَـٰرَكْنَاbāraknā We blessedحَوْلَهُۥḥawlahu its surroundingsلِنُرِيَهُۥlinuriyahu that We may show himمِنْmin ofءَايَـٰتِنَآ ۚāyātinā Our Signsإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed Heهُوَhuwa Heٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu (is) the All-Hearerٱلْبَصِيرُl-baṣīru the All-Seer١
وَءَاتَيْنَاwaātaynā And We gaveمُوسَىmūsā Musaٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitāba the Bookوَجَعَلْنَـٰهُwajaʿalnāhu and made itهُدًۭىhudan a guidanceلِّبَنِىٓlibanī for the Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla (of) Israelأَلَّاallā That notتَتَّخِذُوا۟tattakhidhū you takeمِنmin other than Meدُونِىdūnī other than Meوَكِيلًۭاwakīlan (as) a Disposer of affairs٢
وَقَضَيْنَآwaqaḍaynā And We decreedإِلَىٰilā forبَنِىٓbanī (the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla (of) Israelفِىfī inٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi the Bookلَتُفْسِدُنَّlatuf'sidunna Surely you will cause corruptionفِىfī inٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi the earthمَرَّتَيْنِmarratayni twiceوَلَتَعْلُنَّwalataʿlunna and surely you will reachعُلُوًّۭاʿuluwwan haughtinessكَبِيرًۭاkabīran great٤
فَإِذَاfa-idhā So whenجَآءَjāa cameوَعْدُwaʿdu (the) promiseأُولَىٰهُمَاūlāhumā (for) the first of the twoبَعَثْنَاbaʿathnā We raisedعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykum against youعِبَادًۭاʿibādan servantsلَّنَآlanā of Oursأُو۟لِىulī those of great military mightبَأْسٍۢbasin those of great military mightشَدِيدٍۢshadīdin those of great military mightفَجَاسُوا۟fajāsū and they enteredخِلَـٰلَkhilāla the inner most partٱلدِّيَارِ ۚl-diyāri (of) the homesوَكَانَwakāna and (it) wasوَعْدًۭاwaʿdan a promiseمَّفْعُولًۭاmafʿūlan fulfilled٥
ثُمَّthumma Thenرَدَدْنَاradadnā We gave backلَكُمُlakumu to youٱلْكَرَّةَl-karata the return victoryعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim over themوَأَمْدَدْنَـٰكُمwa-amdadnākum And We reinforced youبِأَمْوَٰلٍۢbi-amwālin with the wealthوَبَنِينَwabanīna and sonsوَجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْwajaʿalnākum and made youأَكْثَرَakthara moreنَفِيرًاnafīran numerous٦
إِنْin Ifأَحْسَنتُمْaḥsantum you do goodأَحْسَنتُمْaḥsantum you do goodلِأَنفُسِكُمْ ۖli-anfusikum for yourselvesوَإِنْwa-in and ifأَسَأْتُمْasatum you do evilفَلَهَا ۚfalahā then it is for itفَإِذَاfa-idhā So whenجَآءَjāa cameوَعْدُwaʿdu promiseٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhirati the lastلِيَسُـۥٓـُٔوا۟liyasūū to saddenوُجُوهَكُمْwujūhakum your facesوَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟waliyadkhulū and to enterٱلْمَسْجِدَl-masjida the Masjidكَمَاkamā just asدَخَلُوهُdakhalūhu they (had) entered itأَوَّلَawwala firstمَرَّةٍۢmarratin timeوَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟waliyutabbirū and to destroyمَاmā whatعَلَوْا۟ʿalaw they had conqueredتَتْبِيرًاtatbīran (with) destruction٧
عَسَىٰʿasā (It) may beرَبُّكُمْrabbukum that your Lordأَنan that your Lordيَرْحَمَكُمْ ۚyarḥamakum (may) have mercy upon youوَإِنْwa-in But ifعُدتُّمْʿudttum you returnعُدْنَا ۘʿud'nā We will returnوَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnā And We have madeجَهَنَّمَjahannama Hellلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīna for the disbelieversحَصِيرًاḥaṣīran a prison-bed٨
إِنَّinna Indeedهَـٰذَاhādhā thisٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna the Quranيَهْدِىyahdī guidesلِلَّتِىlillatī to thatهِىَhiya whichأَقْوَمُaqwamu (is) most straightوَيُبَشِّرُwayubashiru and gives glad tidingsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna to the believers ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna those whoيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūna doٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti the righteous deedsأَنَّanna thatلَهُمْlahum for themأَجْرًۭاajran (is) a rewardكَبِيرًۭاkabīran great٩
وَأَنَّwa-anna And thatٱلَّذِينَalladhīna those whoلَاlā (do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna believeبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِbil-ākhirati in the Hereafterأَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnā We have preparedلَهُمْlahum for themعَذَابًاʿadhāban a punishmentأَلِيمًۭاalīman painful١٠
وَيَدْعُwayadʿu And praysٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu the manبِٱلشَّرِّbil-shari for evilدُعَآءَهُۥduʿāahu (as) he praysبِٱلْخَيْرِ ۖbil-khayri for the goodوَكَانَwakāna And isٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu the manعَجُولًۭاʿajūlan ever hasty١١
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnā And We have madeٱلَّيْلَal-layla the nightوَٱلنَّهَارَwal-nahāra and the dayءَايَتَيْنِ ۖāyatayni (as) two signsفَمَحَوْنَآfamaḥawnā Then We erasedءَايَةَāyata (the) signٱلَّيْلِal-layli (of) the nightوَجَعَلْنَآwajaʿalnā and We madeءَايَةَāyata (the) signٱلنَّهَارِl-nahāri (of) the dayمُبْصِرَةًۭmub'ṣiratan visibleلِّتَبْتَغُوا۟litabtaghū that you may seekفَضْلًۭاfaḍlan bountyمِّنmin fromرَّبِّكُمْrabbikum your Lordوَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟walitaʿlamū and that you may knowعَدَدَʿadada (the) numberٱلسِّنِينَl-sinīna (of) the yearsوَٱلْحِسَابَ ۚwal-ḥisāba and the accountوَكُلَّwakulla And everyشَىْءٍۢshayin thing فَصَّلْنَـٰهُfaṣṣalnāhu We have explained itتَفْصِيلًۭاtafṣīlan (in) detail١٢
وَكُلَّwakulla And (for) everyإِنسَـٰنٍinsānin manأَلْزَمْنَـٰهُalzamnāhu We have fastened to himطَـٰٓئِرَهُۥṭāirahu his fateفِىfī inعُنُقِهِۦ ۖʿunuqihi his neckوَنُخْرِجُwanukh'riju and We will bring forthلَهُۥlahu for himيَوْمَyawma (on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrectionكِتَـٰبًۭاkitāban a recordيَلْقَىٰهُyalqāhu which he will findمَنشُورًاmanshūran wide open١٣
مَّنِmani Whoeverٱهْتَدَىٰih'tadā (is) guidedفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamā then onlyيَهْتَدِىyahtadī he is guidedلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖlinafsihi for his soulوَمَنwaman And whoeverضَلَّḍalla goes astrayفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamā then onlyيَضِلُّyaḍillu he goes astrayعَلَيْهَا ۚʿalayhā against itوَلَاwalā And notتَزِرُtaziru will bearوَازِرَةٌۭwāziratun a bearer of burdenوِزْرَwiz'ra burdenأُخْرَىٰ ۗukh'rā (of) anotherوَمَاwamā And notكُنَّاkunnā Weمُعَذِّبِينَmuʿadhibīna are to punishحَتَّىٰḥattā untilنَبْعَثَnabʿatha We have sentرَسُولًۭاrasūlan a Messenger١٥
وَإِذَآwa-idhā And whenأَرَدْنَآaradnā We intendأَنan thatنُّهْلِكَnuh'lika We destroyقَرْيَةًqaryatan a townأَمَرْنَاamarnā We orderمُتْرَفِيهَاmut'rafīhā its wealthy peopleفَفَسَقُوا۟fafasaqū but they defiantly disobeyفِيهَاfīhā thereinفَحَقَّfaḥaqqa so (is) proved trueعَلَيْهَاʿalayhā against itٱلْقَوْلُl-qawlu the wordفَدَمَّرْنَـٰهَاfadammarnāhā and We destroy itتَدْمِيرًۭاtadmīran (with) destruction١٦
وَكَمْwakam And how manyأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknā We destroyedمِنَmina fromٱلْقُرُونِl-qurūni the generationsمِنۢmin afterبَعْدِbaʿdi afterنُوحٍۢ ۗnūḥin Nuhوَكَفَىٰwakafā And sufficientبِرَبِّكَbirabbika (is) your Lordبِذُنُوبِbidhunūbi concerning the sinsعِبَادِهِۦʿibādihi (of) His servantsخَبِيرًۢاkhabīran All-Awareبَصِيرًۭاbaṣīran All-Seer١٧
مَّنman Whoeverكَانَkāna shouldيُرِيدُyurīdu desireٱلْعَاجِلَةَl-ʿājilata the immediateعَجَّلْنَاʿajjalnā We hastenلَهُۥlahu for himفِيهَاfīhā in itمَاmā whatنَشَآءُnashāu We willلِمَنliman to whomنُّرِيدُnurīdu We intendثُمَّthumma Thenجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā We have madeلَهُۥlahu for himجَهَنَّمَjahannama Hellيَصْلَىٰهَاyaṣlāhā he will burnمَذْمُومًۭاmadhmūman disgracedمَّدْحُورًۭاmadḥūran rejected١٨
وَمَنْwaman And whoeverأَرَادَarāda desiresٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَl-ākhirata the Hereafterوَسَعَىٰwasaʿā and exertsلَهَاlahā for itسَعْيَهَاsaʿyahā the effortوَهُوَwahuwa while heمُؤْمِنٌۭmu'minun (is) a believerفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāika then thoseكَانَkāna [are]سَعْيُهُمsaʿyuhum their effortمَّشْكُورًۭاmashkūran (is) appreciated١٩
ٱنظُرْunẓur Seeكَيْفَkayfa howفَضَّلْنَاfaḍḍalnā We preferredبَعْضَهُمْbaʿḍahum some of themعَلَىٰʿalā overبَعْضٍۢ ۚbaʿḍin othersوَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُwalalākhiratu And surely the Hereafterأَكْبَرُakbaru (is) greaterدَرَجَـٰتٍۢdarajātin (in) degreesوَأَكْبَرُwa-akbaru and greaterتَفْضِيلًۭاtafḍīlan (in) excellence٢١
۞ وَقَضَىٰwaqaḍā And has decreedرَبُّكَrabbuka your Lordأَلَّاallā that (do) notتَعْبُدُوٓا۟taʿbudū worshipإِلَّآillā exceptإِيَّاهُiyyāhu Him Aloneوَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِwabil-wālidayni and to the parentsإِحْسَـٰنًا ۚiḥ'sānan (be) goodإِمَّاimmā Whetherيَبْلُغَنَّyablughanna reachعِندَكَʿindaka with youٱلْكِبَرَl-kibara the old ageأَحَدُهُمَآaḥaduhumā one of themأَوْaw orكِلَاهُمَاkilāhumā both of themفَلَاfalā then (do) notتَقُلtaqul sayلَّهُمَآlahumā to both of themأُفٍّۢuffin a word of disrespectوَلَاwalā and (do) notتَنْهَرْهُمَاtanharhumā repel themوَقُلwaqul but speakلَّهُمَاlahumā to themقَوْلًۭاqawlan a wordكَرِيمًۭاkarīman noble٢٣
وَٱخْفِضْwa-ikh'fiḍ And lowerلَهُمَاlahumā to themجَنَاحَjanāḥa (the) wingٱلذُّلِّl-dhuli (of) humilityمِنَmina (out) ofٱلرَّحْمَةِl-raḥmati [the] mercyوَقُلwaqul and sayرَّبِّrabbi My Lordٱرْحَمْهُمَاir'ḥamhumā Have mercy on both of themكَمَاkamā asرَبَّيَانِىrabbayānī they brought me upصَغِيرًۭاṣaghīran (when I was) small٢٤
رَّبُّكُمْrabbukum Your Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamu (is) most knowingبِمَاbimā of whatفِىfī (is) inنُفُوسِكُمْ ۚnufūsikum yourselvesإِنin Ifتَكُونُوا۟takūnū you areصَـٰلِحِينَṣāliḥīna righteousفَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahu then indeed, Heكَانَkāna isلِلْأَوَّٰبِينَlil'awwābīna to those who often turn (to Him)غَفُورًۭاghafūran Most Forgiving٢٥
وَءَاتِwaāti And giveذَاdhā the relativesٱلْقُرْبَىٰl-qur'bā the relativesحَقَّهُۥḥaqqahu his rightوَٱلْمِسْكِينَwal-mis'kīna and the needyوَٱبْنَwa-ib'na and the wayfarerٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīli and the wayfarerوَلَاwalā and (do) notتُبَذِّرْtubadhir spendتَبْذِيرًاtabdhīran wastefully٢٦
إِنَّinna Indeedٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَl-mubadhirīna the spendthriftsكَانُوٓا۟kānū areإِخْوَٰنَikh'wāna brothersٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖl-shayāṭīni (of) the devilsوَكَانَwakāna And isٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānu the Shaitaanلِرَبِّهِۦlirabbihi to his Lordكَفُورًۭاkafūran ungrateful٢٧
وَإِمَّاwa-immā And ifتُعْرِضَنَّtuʿ'riḍanna you turn awayعَنْهُمُʿanhumu from themٱبْتِغَآءَib'tighāa seekingرَحْمَةٍۢraḥmatin mercyمِّنmin fromرَّبِّكَrabbika your Lordتَرْجُوهَاtarjūhā which you expectفَقُلfaqul then sayلَّهُمْlahum to themقَوْلًۭاqawlan a wordمَّيْسُورًۭاmaysūran gentle٢٨
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَجْعَلْtajʿal makeيَدَكَyadaka your handمَغْلُولَةًmaghlūlatan chainedإِلَىٰilā toعُنُقِكَʿunuqika your neckوَلَاwalā and notتَبْسُطْهَاtabsuṭ'hā extend itكُلَّkulla (to its) utmostٱلْبَسْطِl-basṭi reachفَتَقْعُدَfataqʿuda so that you sitمَلُومًۭاmalūman blameworthyمَّحْسُورًاmaḥsūran insolvent٢٩
إِنَّinna Indeedرَبَّكَrabbaka your Lordيَبْسُطُyabsuṭu extendsٱلرِّزْقَl-riz'qa the provisionلِمَنliman for whomيَشَآءُyashāu He willsوَيَقْدِرُ ۚwayaqdiru and straitensإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed, Heكَانَkāna isبِعِبَادِهِۦbiʿibādihi of His slavesخَبِيرًۢاkhabīran All-Awareبَصِيرًۭاbaṣīran All-Seer٣٠
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَقْتُلُوٓا۟taqtulū killأَوْلَـٰدَكُمْawlādakum your childrenخَشْيَةَkhashyata (for) fearإِمْلَـٰقٍۢ ۖim'lāqin (of) povertyنَّحْنُnaḥnu Weنَرْزُقُهُمْnarzuquhum (We) provide for themوَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚwa-iyyākum and for youإِنَّinna Indeedقَتْلَهُمْqatlahum their killingكَانَkāna isخِطْـًۭٔاkhiṭ'an a sinكَبِيرًۭاkabīran great٣١
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَقْرَبُوا۟taqrabū go nearٱلزِّنَىٰٓ ۖl-zinā adulteryإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed, itكَانَkāna isفَـٰحِشَةًۭfāḥishatan an immoralityوَسَآءَwasāa and (an) evilسَبِيلًۭاsabīlan way٣٢
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَقْتُلُوا۟taqtulū killٱلنَّفْسَl-nafsa the soulٱلَّتِىallatī whichحَرَّمَḥarrama Allah has forbiddenٱللَّهُl-lahu Allah has forbiddenإِلَّاillā exceptبِٱلْحَقِّ ۗbil-ḥaqi by rightوَمَنwaman And whoeverقُتِلَqutila (is) killedمَظْلُومًۭاmaẓlūman wrongfullyفَقَدْfaqad verilyجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā We have madeلِوَلِيِّهِۦliwaliyyihi for his heirسُلْطَـٰنًۭاsul'ṭānan an authorityفَلَاfalā but notيُسْرِفyus'rif he should exceedفِّىfī inٱلْقَتْلِ ۖl-qatli the killingإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed, heكَانَkāna isمَنصُورًۭاmanṣūran helped٣٣
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَقْرَبُوا۟taqrabū come nearمَالَmāla (the) wealthٱلْيَتِيمِl-yatīmi (of) the orphanإِلَّاillā exceptبِٱلَّتِىbi-allatī with whatهِىَhiya [it] isأَحْسَنُaḥsanu bestحَتَّىٰḥattā untilيَبْلُغَyablugha he reachesأَشُدَّهُۥ ۚashuddahu his maturityوَأَوْفُوا۟wa-awfū And fulfilبِٱلْعَهْدِ ۖbil-ʿahdi the covenantإِنَّinna Indeedٱلْعَهْدَl-ʿahda the covenantكَانَkāna will beمَسْـُٔولًۭاmasūlan questioned٣٤
وَأَوْفُوا۟wa-awfū And give fullٱلْكَيْلَl-kayla [the] measureإِذَاidhā whenكِلْتُمْkil'tum you measureوَزِنُوا۟wazinū and weighبِٱلْقِسْطَاسِbil-qis'ṭāsi with the balanceٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚl-mus'taqīmi the straightذَٰلِكَdhālika Thatخَيْرٌۭkhayrun (is) goodوَأَحْسَنُwa-aḥsanu and bestتَأْوِيلًۭاtawīlan (in) result٣٥
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَقْفُtaqfu pursueمَاmā whatلَيْسَlaysa notلَكَlaka you haveبِهِۦbihi of itعِلْمٌ ۚʿil'mun any knowledgeإِنَّinna Indeedٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿa the hearingوَٱلْبَصَرَwal-baṣara and the sightوَٱلْفُؤَادَwal-fuāda and the heartكُلُّkullu allأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāika thoseكَانَkāna will beعَنْهُʿanhu [about it]مَسْـُٔولًۭاmasūlan questioned٣٦
وَلَاwalā And (do) notتَمْشِtamshi walkفِىfī inٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi the earthمَرَحًا ۖmaraḥan (with) insolenceإِنَّكَinnaka Indeed, youلَنlan will neverتَخْرِقَtakhriqa tearٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa the earthوَلَنwalan and will neverتَبْلُغَtablugha reachٱلْجِبَالَl-jibāla the mountainsطُولًۭاṭūlan (in) height٣٧
ذَٰلِكَdhālika Thatمِمَّآmimmā (is) from whatأَوْحَىٰٓawḥā (was) revealedإِلَيْكَilayka to youرَبُّكَrabbuka (from) your Lordمِنَmina ofٱلْحِكْمَةِ ۗl-ḥik'mati the wisdomوَلَاwalā And (do) notتَجْعَلْtajʿal makeمَعَmaʿa withٱللَّهِl-lahi Allahإِلَـٰهًاilāhan godءَاخَرَākhara otherفَتُلْقَىٰfatul'qā lest you should be thrownفِىfī inجَهَنَّمَjahannama Hellمَلُومًۭاmalūman blameworthyمَّدْحُورًاmadḥūran abandoned٣٩
أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْafa-aṣfākum Then has your Lord chosen (for) youرَبُّكُمrabbukum Then has your Lord chosen (for) youبِٱلْبَنِينَbil-banīna sonsوَٱتَّخَذَwa-ittakhadha and He has takenمِنَmina fromٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِl-malāikati the Angelsإِنَـٰثًا ۚināthan daughtersإِنَّكُمْinnakum Indeed, youلَتَقُولُونَlataqūlūna surely sayقَوْلًاqawlan a wordعَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīman grave٤٠
وَلَقَدْwalaqad And verilyصَرَّفْنَاṣarrafnā We have explainedفِىfī inهَـٰذَاhādhā thisٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āni the Quranلِيَذَّكَّرُوا۟liyadhakkarū that they may take heedوَمَاwamā but notيَزِيدُهُمْyazīduhum it increases themإِلَّاillā exceptنُفُورًۭاnufūran (in) aversion٤١
قُلqul Sayلَّوْlaw Ifكَانَkāna (there) wereمَعَهُۥٓmaʿahu with Himءَالِهَةٌۭālihatun godsكَمَاkamā asيَقُولُونَyaqūlūna they sayإِذًۭاidhan thenلَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟la-ib'taghaw surely they (would) have soughtإِلَىٰilā toذِىdhī (the) Ownerٱلْعَرْشِl-ʿarshi (of) the Throneسَبِيلًۭاsabīlan a way٤٢
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥsub'ḥānahu Glorified is Heوَتَعَـٰلَىٰwataʿālā and Exalted is Heعَمَّاʿammā above whatيَقُولُونَyaqūlūna they sayعُلُوًّۭاʿuluwwan (by) heightكَبِيرًۭاkabīran great٤٣
تُسَبِّحُtusabbiḥu Glorifyلَهُlahu [to] Himٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُl-samāwātu the seven heavensٱلسَّبْعُl-sabʿu the seven heavensوَٱلْأَرْضُwal-arḍu and the earthوَمَنwaman and whateverفِيهِنَّ ۚfīhinna (is) in themوَإِنwa-in And (there is) notمِّنmin anyشَىْءٍshayin thingإِلَّاillā exceptيُسَبِّحُyusabbiḥu glorifiesبِحَمْدِهِۦbiḥamdihi His Praiseوَلَـٰكِنwalākin butلَّاlā notتَفْقَهُونَtafqahūna you understandتَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗtasbīḥahum their glorificationإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed, Heكَانَkāna isحَلِيمًاḥalīman Ever-Forbearingغَفُورًۭاghafūran Oft-Forgiving٤٤
وَإِذَاwa-idhā And whenقَرَأْتَqarata you reciteٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna the Quranجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā We placeبَيْنَكَbaynaka between youوَبَيْنَwabayna and betweenٱلَّذِينَalladhīna those whoلَاlā (do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna believeبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِbil-ākhirati in the Hereafterحِجَابًۭاḥijāban a barrierمَّسْتُورًۭاmastūran hidden٤٥
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnā And We have placedعَلَىٰʿalā overقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihim their heartsأَكِنَّةًakinnatan coveringsأَنan lestيَفْقَهُوهُyafqahūhu they understand itوَفِىٓwafī and inءَاذَانِهِمْādhānihim their earsوَقْرًۭا ۚwaqran deafnessوَإِذَاwa-idhā And whenذَكَرْتَdhakarta you mentionرَبَّكَrabbaka your Lordفِىfī inٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āni the Quranوَحْدَهُۥwaḥdahu Aloneوَلَّوْا۟wallaw they turnعَلَىٰٓʿalā onأَدْبَـٰرِهِمْadbārihim their backsنُفُورًۭاnufūran (in) aversion٤٦
نَّحْنُnaḥnu Weأَعْلَمُaʿlamu know bestبِمَاbimā [of] whatيَسْتَمِعُونَyastamiʿūna they listenبِهِۦٓbihi to [it]إِذْidh whenيَسْتَمِعُونَyastamiʿūna they listenإِلَيْكَilayka to youوَإِذْwa-idh and whenهُمْhum theyنَجْوَىٰٓnajwā (are) in private conversationإِذْidh whenيَقُولُyaqūlu sayٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūna the wrongdoersإِنin Notتَتَّبِعُونَtattabiʿūna you followإِلَّاillā butرَجُلًۭاrajulan a manمَّسْحُورًاmasḥūran bewitched٤٧
ٱنظُرْunẓur Seeكَيْفَkayfa howضَرَبُوا۟ḍarabū they put forthلَكَlaka for youٱلْأَمْثَالَl-amthāla the examplesفَضَلُّوا۟faḍallū but they have gone astrayفَلَاfalā so notيَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūna they canسَبِيلًۭاsabīlan (find) a way٤٨
وَقَالُوٓا۟waqālū And they sayأَءِذَاa-idhā Is it whenكُنَّاkunnā we areعِظَـٰمًۭاʿiẓāman bonesوَرُفَـٰتًاwarufātan and crumbled particlesأَءِنَّاa-innā will weلَمَبْعُوثُونَlamabʿūthūna surely (be) resurrectedخَلْقًۭاkhalqan (as) a creationجَدِيدًۭاjadīdan new٤٩
أَوْaw Orخَلْقًۭاkhalqan a creationمِّمَّاmimmā of whatيَكْبُرُyakburu (is) greatفِىfī inصُدُورِكُمْ ۚṣudūrikum your breastsفَسَيَقُولُونَfasayaqūlūna Then they will sayمَنman Whoيُعِيدُنَا ۖyuʿīdunā will restore usقُلِquli Sayٱلَّذِىalladhī He Whoفَطَرَكُمْfaṭarakum created youأَوَّلَawwala (the) firstمَرَّةٍۢ ۚmarratin timeفَسَيُنْغِضُونَfasayun'ghiḍūna Then they will shakeإِلَيْكَilayka at youرُءُوسَهُمْruūsahum their headsوَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūna and they sayمَتَىٰmatā When (will)هُوَ ۖhuwa it (be)قُلْqul Sayعَسَىٰٓʿasā Perhapsأَنan thatيَكُونَyakūna (it) will beقَرِيبًۭاqarīban soon٥١
يَوْمَyawma (On) the Dayيَدْعُوكُمْyadʿūkum He will call youفَتَسْتَجِيبُونَfatastajībūna and you will respondبِحَمْدِهِۦbiḥamdihi with His Praiseوَتَظُنُّونَwataẓunnūna and you will thinkإِنin notلَّبِثْتُمْlabith'tum you had remainedإِلَّاillā exceptقَلِيلًۭاqalīlan a little (while)٥٢
وَقُلwaqul And sayلِّعِبَادِىliʿibādī to My slavesيَقُولُوا۟yaqūlū (to) sayٱلَّتِىallatī thatهِىَhiya whichأَحْسَنُ ۚaḥsanu (is) bestإِنَّinna Indeedٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَl-shayṭāna the Shaitaanيَنزَغُyanzaghu sows discordبَيْنَهُمْ ۚbaynahum between themإِنَّinna Indeedٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَl-shayṭāna the Shaitaanكَانَkāna isلِلْإِنسَـٰنِlil'insāni to the manعَدُوًّۭاʿaduwwan an enemyمُّبِينًۭاmubīnan clear٥٣
رَّبُّكُمْrabbukum Your Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamu (is) most knowingبِكُمْ ۖbikum of youإِنin Ifيَشَأْyasha He willsيَرْحَمْكُمْyarḥamkum He will have mercy on youأَوْaw orإِنin ifيَشَأْyasha He willsيُعَذِّبْكُمْ ۚyuʿadhib'kum He will punish youوَمَآwamā And notأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَarsalnāka We have sent youعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim over themوَكِيلًۭاwakīlan (as) a guardian٥٤
وَرَبُّكَwarabbuka And your Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamu (is) most knowingبِمَنbiman of whoeverفِىfī (is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗwal-arḍi and the earthوَلَقَدْwalaqad And verilyفَضَّلْنَاfaḍḍalnā We have preferredبَعْضَbaʿḍa someٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَl-nabiyīna (of) the Prophetsعَلَىٰʿalā toبَعْضٍۢ ۖbaʿḍin othersوَءَاتَيْنَاwaātaynā And We gaveدَاوُۥدَdāwūda Dawoodزَبُورًۭاzabūran Zaboor٥٥
قُلِquli Sayٱدْعُوا۟id'ʿū Callٱلَّذِينَalladhīna those whomزَعَمْتُمzaʿamtum you claimedمِّنmin besides Himدُونِهِۦdūnihi besides Himفَلَاfalā [then] notيَمْلِكُونَyamlikūna they have powerكَشْفَkashfa (to) removeٱلضُّرِّl-ḍuri the misfortunesعَنكُمْʿankum from youوَلَاwalā and notتَحْوِيلًاtaḥwīlan (to) transfer (it)٥٦
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāika Thoseٱلَّذِينَalladhīna whomيَدْعُونَyadʿūna they callيَبْتَغُونَyabtaghūna seekإِلَىٰilā toرَبِّهِمُrabbihimu their Lordٱلْوَسِيلَةَl-wasīlata the means of accessأَيُّهُمْayyuhum which of themأَقْرَبُaqrabu (is) nearestوَيَرْجُونَwayarjūna and they hopeرَحْمَتَهُۥraḥmatahu (for) His mercyوَيَخَافُونَwayakhāfūna and fearعَذَابَهُۥٓ ۚʿadhābahu His punishmentإِنَّinna Indeedعَذَابَʿadhāba (the) punishmentرَبِّكَrabbika (of) your Lordكَانَkāna isمَحْذُورًۭاmaḥdhūran (ever) feared٥٧
وَإِنwa-in And notمِّنmin (is) anyقَرْيَةٍqaryatin townإِلَّاillā butنَحْنُnaḥnu Weمُهْلِكُوهَاmuh'likūhā (will) destroy itقَبْلَqabla beforeيَوْمِyawmi (the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrectionأَوْaw orمُعَذِّبُوهَاmuʿadhibūhā punish itعَذَابًۭاʿadhāban with a punishmentشَدِيدًۭا ۚshadīdan severeكَانَkāna That isذَٰلِكَdhālika That isفِىfī inٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi the Bookمَسْطُورًۭاmasṭūran written٥٨
وَمَاwamā And notمَنَعَنَآmanaʿanā stopped Usأَنan thatنُّرْسِلَnur'sila We sendبِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِbil-āyāti the Signsإِلَّآillā exceptأَنan thatكَذَّبَkadhaba deniedبِهَاbihā themٱلْأَوَّلُونَ ۚl-awalūna the former (people)وَءَاتَيْنَاwaātaynā And We gaveثَمُودَthamūda Thamudٱلنَّاقَةَl-nāqata the she-camelمُبْصِرَةًۭmub'ṣiratan (as) a visible signفَظَلَمُوا۟faẓalamū but they wrongedبِهَا ۚbihā herوَمَاwamā And notنُرْسِلُnur'silu We sendبِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِbil-āyāti the Signsإِلَّاillā exceptتَخْوِيفًۭاtakhwīfan (as) a warning٥٩
وَإِذْwa-idh And whenقُلْنَاqul'nā We saidلَكَlaka to youإِنَّinna Indeedرَبَّكَrabbaka your Lordأَحَاطَaḥāṭa has encompassedبِٱلنَّاسِ ۚbil-nāsi the mankindوَمَاwamā And notجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā We madeٱلرُّءْيَاl-ru'yā the visionٱلَّتِىٓallatī whichأَرَيْنَـٰكَaraynāka We showed youإِلَّاillā exceptفِتْنَةًۭfit'natan (as) a trialلِّلنَّاسِlilnnāsi for mankindوَٱلشَّجَرَةَwal-shajarata and the treeٱلْمَلْعُونَةَl-malʿūnata the accursedفِىfī inٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚl-qur'āni the Quranوَنُخَوِّفُهُمْwanukhawwifuhum And We threaten themفَمَاfamā but notيَزِيدُهُمْyazīduhum it increases themإِلَّاillā exceptطُغْيَـٰنًۭاṭugh'yānan (in) transgressionكَبِيرًۭاkabīran great٦٠
وَإِذْwa-idh And whenقُلْنَاqul'nā We saidلِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِlil'malāikati to the Angelsٱسْجُدُوا۟us'judū Prostrateلِـَٔادَمَliādama to Adamفَسَجَدُوٓا۟fasajadū So they prostratedإِلَّآillā exceptإِبْلِيسَib'līsa Iblisقَالَqāla He saidءَأَسْجُدُa-asjudu Shall I prostrateلِمَنْliman to (one) whomخَلَقْتَkhalaqta You createdطِينًۭاṭīnan (from) clay٦١
قَالَqāla He saidأَرَءَيْتَكَara-aytaka Do You seeهَـٰذَاhādhā thisٱلَّذِىalladhī whomكَرَّمْتَkarramta You have honoredعَلَىَّʿalayya above meلَئِنْla-in Ifأَخَّرْتَنِakhartani You give me respiteإِلَىٰilā tillيَوْمِyawmi (the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrectionلَأَحْتَنِكَنَّla-aḥtanikanna I will surely destroyذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓdhurriyyatahu his offspringإِلَّاillā exceptقَلِيلًۭاqalīlan a few٦٢
قَالَqāla He saidٱذْهَبْidh'hab Goفَمَنfaman and whoeverتَبِعَكَtabiʿaka follows youمِنْهُمْmin'hum among themفَإِنَّfa-inna then indeedجَهَنَّمَjahannama Hellجَزَآؤُكُمْjazāukum (is) your recompense جَزَآءًۭjazāan a recompenseمَّوْفُورًۭاmawfūran ample٦٣
وَٱسْتَفْزِزْwa-is'tafziz And inciteمَنِmani whoeverٱسْتَطَعْتَis'taṭaʿta you canمِنْهُمmin'hum among themبِصَوْتِكَbiṣawtika with your voiceوَأَجْلِبْwa-ajlib and assaultعَلَيْهِمʿalayhim [on] themبِخَيْلِكَbikhaylika with your cavalryوَرَجِلِكَwarajilika and infantryوَشَارِكْهُمْwashārik'hum and be a partnerفِىfī inٱلْأَمْوَٰلِl-amwāli the wealthوَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِwal-awlādi and the childrenوَعِدْهُمْ ۚwaʿid'hum and promise themوَمَاwamā And notيَعِدُهُمُyaʿiduhumu promises themٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānu the Shaitaanإِلَّاillā exceptغُرُورًاghurūran delusion٦٤
إِنَّinna Indeedعِبَادِىʿibādī My slavesلَيْسَlaysa notلَكَlaka for youعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim over themسُلْطَـٰنٌۭ ۚsul'ṭānun any authorityوَكَفَىٰwakafā And sufficientبِرَبِّكَbirabbika (is) your Lordوَكِيلًۭاwakīlan (as) a Guardian٦٥
رَّبُّكُمُrabbukumu Your Lordٱلَّذِىalladhī (is) the One Whoيُزْجِىyuz'jī drivesلَكُمُlakumu for youٱلْفُلْكَl-ful'ka the shipفِىfī inٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥri the seaلِتَبْتَغُوا۟litabtaghū that you may seekمِنmin ofفَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚfaḍlihi His Bountyإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed, Heكَانَkāna isبِكُمْbikum to youرَحِيمًۭاraḥīman Ever Merciful٦٦
وَإِذَاwa-idhā And whenمَسَّكُمُmassakumu touches youٱلضُّرُّl-ḍuru the hardshipفِىfī inٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥri the seaضَلَّḍalla lostمَنman (are) whoتَدْعُونَtadʿūna you callإِلَّآillā exceptإِيَّاهُ ۖiyyāhu Him Aloneفَلَمَّاfalammā But whenنَجَّىٰكُمْnajjākum He delivers youإِلَىilā toٱلْبَرِّl-bari the landأَعْرَضْتُمْ ۚaʿraḍtum you turn awayوَكَانَwakāna And isٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu manكَفُورًاkafūran ungrateful٦٧
أَفَأَمِنتُمْafa-amintum Do you then feel secureأَنan that (not)يَخْسِفَyakhsifa He will cause to swallowبِكُمْbikum youجَانِبَjāniba sideٱلْبَرِّl-bari (of) the landأَوْaw orيُرْسِلَyur'sila sendعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykum against youحَاصِبًۭاḥāṣiban a storm of stonesثُمَّthumma Thenلَاlā notتَجِدُوا۟tajidū you will findلَكُمْlakum for youوَكِيلًاwakīlan a guardian٦٨
أَمْam Orأَمِنتُمْamintum do you feel secureأَنan that (not)يُعِيدَكُمْyuʿīdakum He will send you backفِيهِfīhi into itتَارَةًtāratan another timeأُخْرَىٰukh'rā another timeفَيُرْسِلَfayur'sila and sendعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykum upon youقَاصِفًۭاqāṣifan a hurricaneمِّنَmina ofٱلرِّيحِl-rīḥi the windفَيُغْرِقَكُمfayugh'riqakum and drown youبِمَاbimā becauseكَفَرْتُمْ ۙkafartum you disbelievedثُمَّthumma Thenلَاlā notتَجِدُوا۟tajidū you will findلَكُمْlakum for youعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā against Usبِهِۦbihi thereinتَبِيعًۭاtabīʿan an avenger٦٩
۞ وَلَقَدْwalaqad And certainlyكَرَّمْنَاkarramnā We have honoredبَنِىٓbanī (the) children of Adamءَادَمَādama (the) children of Adamوَحَمَلْنَـٰهُمْwaḥamalnāhum and We carried themفِىfī onٱلْبَرِّl-bari the landوَٱلْبَحْرِwal-baḥri and the seaوَرَزَقْنَـٰهُمwarazaqnāhum and We have provided themمِّنَmina ofٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِl-ṭayibāti the good thingsوَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْwafaḍḍalnāhum and We preferred themعَلَىٰʿalā overكَثِيرٍۢkathīrin manyمِّمَّنْmimman of those whomخَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā We have createdتَفْضِيلًۭاtafḍīlan (with) preference٧٠
يَوْمَyawma (The) Dayنَدْعُوا۟nadʿū We will callكُلَّkulla allأُنَاسٍۭunāsin human beingsبِإِمَـٰمِهِمْ ۖbi-imāmihim with their recordفَمَنْfaman then whoeverأُوتِىَūtiya is givenكِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahu his recordبِيَمِينِهِۦbiyamīnihi in his right handفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāika then thoseيَقْرَءُونَyaqraūna will readكِتَـٰبَهُمْkitābahum their recordsوَلَاwalā and notيُظْلَمُونَyuẓ'lamūna they will be wrongedفَتِيلًۭاfatīlan (even as much as) a hair on a date seed٧١
وَمَنwaman And whoeverكَانَkāna isفِىfī inهَـٰذِهِۦٓhādhihi this (world)أَعْمَىٰaʿmā blindفَهُوَfahuwa then heفِىfī inٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhirati the Hereafterأَعْمَىٰaʿmā (will be) blindوَأَضَلُّwa-aḍallu and more astrayسَبِيلًۭاsabīlan (from the) path٧٢
وَإِنwa-in And indeedكَادُوا۟kādū they were about (to)لَيَفْتِنُونَكَlayaftinūnaka tempt you awayعَنِʿani fromٱلَّذِىٓalladhī that whichأَوْحَيْنَآawḥaynā We revealedإِلَيْكَilayka to youلِتَفْتَرِىَlitaftariya that you inventعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā about Usغَيْرَهُۥ ۖghayrahu other (than) itوَإِذًۭاwa-idhan And thenلَّٱتَّخَذُوكَla-ittakhadhūka surely they would take youخَلِيلًۭاkhalīlan (as) a friend٧٣
وَلَوْلَآwalawlā And if notأَنan [that]ثَبَّتْنَـٰكَthabbatnāka We (had) strengthened youلَقَدْlaqad certainlyكِدتَّkidtta you almostتَرْكَنُtarkanu (would) have inclinedإِلَيْهِمْilayhim to themشَيْـًۭٔاshayan (in) somethingقَلِيلًاqalīlan a little٧٤
إِذًۭاidhan Thenلَّأَذَقْنَـٰكَla-adhaqnāka We (would) have made you tasteضِعْفَḍiʿ'fa doubleٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati (in) the lifeوَضِعْفَwaḍiʿ'fa and doubleٱلْمَمَاتِl-mamāti (after) the deathثُمَّthumma Thenلَاlā notتَجِدُtajidu you (would) have foundلَكَlaka for youعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā against Usنَصِيرًۭاnaṣīran any helper٧٥
وَإِنwa-in And indeedكَادُوا۟kādū they were aboutلَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَlayastafizzūnaka (to) scare youمِنَmina fromٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi the landلِيُخْرِجُوكَliyukh'rijūka that they evict youمِنْهَا ۖmin'hā from itوَإِذًۭاwa-idhan But thenلَّاlā notيَلْبَثُونَyalbathūna they (would) have stayedخِلَـٰفَكَkhilāfaka after youإِلَّاillā exceptقَلِيلًۭاqalīlan a little٧٦
سُنَّةَsunnata (Such is Our) Wayمَنman (for) whomقَدْqad [verily]أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnā We sentقَبْلَكَqablaka before youمِنmin ofرُّسُلِنَا ۖrusulinā Our Messengersوَلَاwalā And notتَجِدُtajidu you will findلِسُنَّتِنَاlisunnatinā (in) Our wayتَحْوِيلًاtaḥwīlan any alteration٧٧
أَقِمِaqimi Establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalata the prayerلِدُلُوكِlidulūki at the declineٱلشَّمْسِl-shamsi (of) the sunإِلَىٰilā tillغَسَقِghasaqi (the) darknessٱلَّيْلِal-layli (of) the nightوَقُرْءَانَwaqur'āna and Quranٱلْفَجْرِ ۖl-fajri at dawnإِنَّinna indeedقُرْءَانَqur'āna the Quranٱلْفَجْرِl-fajri (at) the dawnكَانَkāna isمَشْهُودًۭاmashhūdan ever witnessed٧٨
وَمِنَwamina And fromٱلَّيْلِal-layli the nightفَتَهَجَّدْfatahajjad arise from sleep for prayerبِهِۦbihi with itنَافِلَةًۭnāfilatan (as) additionalلَّكَlaka for youعَسَىٰٓʿasā it may beأَنan thatيَبْعَثَكَyabʿathaka will raise youرَبُّكَrabbuka your Lordمَقَامًۭاmaqāman (to) a stationمَّحْمُودًۭاmaḥmūdan praiseworthy٧٩
وَقُلwaqul And sayرَّبِّrabbi My Lordأَدْخِلْنِىadkhil'nī Cause me to enterمُدْخَلَmud'khala an entranceصِدْقٍۢṣid'qin soundوَأَخْرِجْنِىwa-akhrij'nī and cause me to exitمُخْرَجَmukh'raja an exitصِدْقٍۢṣid'qin soundوَٱجْعَلwa-ij'ʿal and makeلِّىlī for meمِنmin fromلَّدُنكَladunka near Youسُلْطَـٰنًۭاsul'ṭānan an authorityنَّصِيرًۭاnaṣīran helping٨٠
وَقُلْwaqul And sayجَآءَjāa Has comeٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu the truthوَزَهَقَwazahaqa and perishedٱلْبَـٰطِلُ ۚl-bāṭilu the falsehoodإِنَّinna Indeedٱلْبَـٰطِلَl-bāṭila the falsehoodكَانَkāna isزَهُوقًۭاzahūqan (bound) to perish٨١
وَنُنَزِّلُwanunazzilu And We revealمِنَmina fromٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āni the Quranمَاmā thatهُوَhuwa itشِفَآءٌۭshifāon (is) a healingوَرَحْمَةٌۭwaraḥmatun and a mercyلِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙlil'mu'minīna for the believersوَلَاwalā but notيَزِيدُyazīdu it increasesٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīna the wrongdoersإِلَّاillā exceptخَسَارًۭاkhasāran (in) loss٨٢
وَإِذَآwa-idhā And whenأَنْعَمْنَاanʿamnā We bestow favorعَلَىʿalā onٱلْإِنسَـٰنِl-insāni manأَعْرَضَaʿraḍa he turns awayوَنَـَٔاwanaā and becomes remoteبِجَانِبِهِۦ ۖbijānibihi on his sideوَإِذَاwa-idhā And whenمَسَّهُmassahu touches himٱلشَّرُّl-sharu the evilكَانَkāna he isيَـُٔوسًۭاyaūsan (in) despair٨٣
قُلْqul Sayكُلٌّۭkullun Eachيَعْمَلُyaʿmalu worksعَلَىٰʿalā onشَاكِلَتِهِۦshākilatihi his mannerفَرَبُّكُمْfarabbukum but your Lordأَعْلَمُaʿlamu (is) most knowingبِمَنْbiman of whoهُوَhuwa [he]أَهْدَىٰahdā (is) best guidedسَبِيلًۭاsabīlan (in) way٨٤
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَwayasalūnaka And they ask youعَنِʿani concerningٱلرُّوحِ ۖl-rūḥi the soulقُلِquli Sayٱلرُّوحُl-rūḥu The soulمِنْmin (is) ofأَمْرِamri (the) affairرَبِّىrabbī (of) my Lordوَمَآwamā And notأُوتِيتُمūtītum you have been givenمِّنَmina ofٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mi the knowledgeإِلَّاillā exceptقَلِيلًۭاqalīlan a little٨٥
وَلَئِنwala-in And ifشِئْنَاshi'nā We willedلَنَذْهَبَنَّlanadhhabanna We (would) have surely taken awayبِٱلَّذِىٓbi-alladhī that whichأَوْحَيْنَآawḥaynā We have revealedإِلَيْكَilayka to youثُمَّthumma Thenلَاlā notتَجِدُtajidu you would findلَكَlaka for youبِهِۦbihi concerning itعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā against Usوَكِيلًاwakīlan any advocate٨٦
إِلَّاillā Exceptرَحْمَةًۭraḥmatan a mercyمِّنmin fromرَّبِّكَ ۚrabbika your Lordإِنَّinna Indeedفَضْلَهُۥfaḍlahu His Bountyكَانَkāna isعَلَيْكَʿalayka upon youكَبِيرًۭاkabīran great٨٧
قُلqul Sayلَّئِنِla-ini Ifٱجْتَمَعَتِij'tamaʿati gatheredٱلْإِنسُl-insu the mankindوَٱلْجِنُّwal-jinu and the jinnعَلَىٰٓʿalā toأَنan [that]يَأْتُوا۟yatū bringبِمِثْلِbimith'li the likeهَـٰذَاhādhā (of) thisٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āni Quranلَاlā notيَأْتُونَyatūna they (could) bringبِمِثْلِهِۦbimith'lihi the like of itوَلَوْwalaw even ifكَانَkāna wereبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhum some of themلِبَعْضٍۢlibaʿḍin to some othersظَهِيرًۭاẓahīran assistants٨٨
وَلَقَدْwalaqad And verilyصَرَّفْنَاṣarrafnā We have explainedلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsi to mankindفِىfī inهَـٰذَاhādhā thisٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āni Quranمِنmin fromكُلِّkulli everyمَثَلٍۢmathalin exampleفَأَبَىٰٓfa-abā but refusedأَكْثَرُaktharu mostٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi (of) the mankindإِلَّاillā exceptكُفُورًۭاkufūran disbelief٨٩
وَقَالُوا۟waqālū And they sayلَنlan Neverنُّؤْمِنَnu'mina we will believeلَكَlaka in youحَتَّىٰḥattā untilتَفْجُرَtafjura you cause to gush forthلَنَاlanā for usمِنَmina fromٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi the earthيَنۢبُوعًاyanbūʿan a spring٩٠
أَوْaw Orتَكُونَtakūna you haveلَكَlaka for youجَنَّةٌۭjannatun a gardenمِّنmin ofنَّخِيلٍۢnakhīlin date-palmsوَعِنَبٍۢwaʿinabin and grapesفَتُفَجِّرَfatufajjira and cause to gush forthٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَl-anhāra the riversخِلَـٰلَهَاkhilālahā within themتَفْجِيرًاtafjīran abundantly٩١
أَوْaw Orتُسْقِطَtus'qiṭa you cause to fallٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāa the skyكَمَاkamā asزَعَمْتَzaʿamta you have claimedعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā upon usكِسَفًاkisafan (in) piecesأَوْaw orتَأْتِىَtatiya you bringبِٱللَّهِbil-lahi Allahوَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِwal-malāikati and the Angelsقَبِيلًاqabīlan before (us)٩٢
أَوْaw Orيَكُونَyakūna isلَكَlaka for youبَيْتٌۭbaytun a houseمِّنmin ofزُخْرُفٍzukh'rufin ornamentأَوْaw orتَرْقَىٰtarqā you ascendفِىfī intoٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāi the skyوَلَنwalan And neverنُّؤْمِنَnu'mina we will believeلِرُقِيِّكَliruqiyyika in your ascensionحَتَّىٰḥattā untilتُنَزِّلَtunazzila you bring downعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā to usكِتَـٰبًۭاkitāban a bookنَّقْرَؤُهُۥ ۗnaqra-uhu we could read itقُلْqul Sayسُبْحَانَsub'ḥāna Glorified (is)رَبِّىrabbī my Lordهَلْhal Whatكُنتُkuntu am Iإِلَّاillā butبَشَرًۭاbasharan a humanرَّسُولًۭاrasūlan a Messenger٩٣
وَمَاwamā And whatمَنَعَmanaʿa preventedٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa the peopleأَنan thatيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟yu'minū they believeإِذْidh whenجَآءَهُمُjāahumu came to themٱلْهُدَىٰٓl-hudā the guidanceإِلَّآillā exceptأَنan thatقَالُوٓا۟qālū they saidأَبَعَثَabaʿatha Has Allah sentٱللَّهُl-lahu Has Allah sentبَشَرًۭاbasharan a humanرَّسُولًۭاrasūlan Messenger٩٤
قُلqul Sayلَّوْlaw Ifكَانَkāna (there) wereفِىfī inٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi the earthمَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌۭmalāikatun Angelsيَمْشُونَyamshūna walkingمُطْمَئِنِّينَmuṭ'ma-innīna securelyلَنَزَّلْنَاlanazzalnā surely We (would) have sent downعَلَيْهِمʿalayhim to themمِّنَmina fromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāi the heavenمَلَكًۭاmalakan an Angelرَّسُولًۭاrasūlan (as) a Messenger٩٥
قُلْqul Sayكَفَىٰkafā Sufficient isبِٱللَّهِbil-lahi Allahشَهِيدًۢاshahīdan (as) a witnessبَيْنِىbaynī between meوَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚwabaynakum and between youإِنَّهُۥinnahu Indeed, Heكَانَkāna isبِعِبَادِهِۦbiʿibādihi of His slavesخَبِيرًۢاkhabīran All-Awareبَصِيرًۭاbaṣīran All-Seer٩٦
وَمَنwaman And whoeverيَهْدِyahdi Allah guidesٱللَّهُl-lahu Allah guidesفَهُوَfahuwa then he (is)ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖl-muh'tadi the guided oneوَمَنwaman and whoeverيُضْلِلْyuḍ'lil He lets go astray فَلَنfalan then neverتَجِدَtajida you will findلَهُمْlahum for themأَوْلِيَآءَawliyāa protectorsمِنmin besides Himدُونِهِۦ ۖdūnihi besides Himوَنَحْشُرُهُمْwanaḥshuruhum And We will gather themيَوْمَyawma (on) the Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrectionعَلَىٰʿalā onوُجُوهِهِمْwujūhihim their faces عُمْيًۭاʿum'yan blindوَبُكْمًۭاwabuk'man and dumbوَصُمًّۭا ۖwaṣumman and deafمَّأْوَىٰهُمْmawāhum Their abodeجَهَنَّمُ ۖjahannamu (is) Hellكُلَّمَاkullamā every timeخَبَتْkhabat it subsidesزِدْنَـٰهُمْzid'nāhum We (will) increase (for) themسَعِيرًۭاsaʿīran the blazing fire٩٧
ذَٰلِكَdhālika Thatجَزَآؤُهُمjazāuhum (is) their recompenseبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum because theyكَفَرُوا۟kafarū disbelievedبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātinā in Our Versesوَقَالُوٓا۟waqālū and saidأَءِذَاa-idhā Whenكُنَّاkunnā we areعِظَـٰمًۭاʿiẓāman bonesوَرُفَـٰتًاwarufātan and crumbled particlesأَءِنَّاa-innā will weلَمَبْعُوثُونَlamabʿūthūna surely (be) resurrectedخَلْقًۭاkhalqan (as) a creationجَدِيدًاjadīdan new٩٨
۞ أَوَلَمْawalam Do notيَرَوْا۟yaraw they seeأَنَّanna thatٱللَّهَl-laha Allahٱلَّذِىalladhī the One Whoخَلَقَkhalaqa createdٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍa and the earthقَادِرٌqādirun (is) Ableعَلَىٰٓʿalā [on]أَنan toيَخْلُقَyakhluqa createمِثْلَهُمْmith'lahum the like of themوَجَعَلَwajaʿala And He has madeلَهُمْlahum for themأَجَلًۭاajalan a termلَّاlā noرَيْبَrayba doubtفِيهِfīhi in itفَأَبَىfa-abā But refusedٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūna the wrongdoersإِلَّاillā exceptكُفُورًۭاkufūran disbelief٩٩
قُلqul Sayلَّوْlaw Ifأَنتُمْantum youتَمْلِكُونَtamlikūna possessخَزَآئِنَkhazāina the treasuresرَحْمَةِraḥmati (of) the Mercyرَبِّىٓrabbī (of) my Lordإِذًۭاidhan thenلَّأَمْسَكْتُمْla-amsaktum surely you would withholdخَشْيَةَkhashyata (out of) fearٱلْإِنفَاقِ ۚl-infāqi (of) spendingوَكَانَwakāna And isٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu manقَتُورًۭاqatūran stingy١٠٠
وَلَقَدْwalaqad And certainlyءَاتَيْنَاātaynā We had givenمُوسَىٰmūsā Musaتِسْعَtis'ʿa nineءَايَـٰتٍۭāyātin Signsبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ ۖbayyinātin clearفَسْـَٔلْfasal so askبَنِىٓbanī (the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla (the) Children of Israelإِذْidh whenجَآءَهُمْjāahum he came to themفَقَالَfaqāla then saidلَهُۥlahu to himفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnu Firaunإِنِّىinnī Indeed, Iلَأَظُنُّكَla-aẓunnuka [I] think you يَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsā O Musaمَسْحُورًۭاmasḥūran (you are) bewitched١٠١
قَالَqāla He saidلَقَدْlaqad Verilyعَلِمْتَʿalim'ta you have knownمَآmā noneأَنزَلَanzala has sent downهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāi theseإِلَّاillā exceptرَبُّrabbu (the) Lordٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti (of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍi and the earthبَصَآئِرَbaṣāira (as) evidenceوَإِنِّىwa-innī and indeed, Iلَأَظُنُّكَla-aẓunnuka [I] surely think youيَـٰفِرْعَوْنُyāfir'ʿawnu O Firaunمَثْبُورًۭاmathbūran (you are) destroyed١٠٢
فَأَرَادَfa-arāda So he intendedأَنan toيَسْتَفِزَّهُمyastafizzahum drive them outمِّنَmina fromٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi the landفَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُfa-aghraqnāhu but We drowned himوَمَنwaman and whoمَّعَهُۥmaʿahu (were) with himجَمِيعًۭاjamīʿan all١٠٣
وَقُلْنَاwaqul'nā And We saidمِنۢmin after himبَعْدِهِۦbaʿdihi after himلِبَنِىٓlibanī to the Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla to the Children of Israelٱسْكُنُوا۟us'kunū Dwellٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa (in) the landفَإِذَاfa-idhā then whenجَآءَjāa comesوَعْدُwaʿdu (the) promiseٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhirati (of) the Hereafterجِئْنَاji'nā We will bringبِكُمْbikum youلَفِيفًۭاlafīfan (as) a mixed crowd١٠٤
وَبِٱلْحَقِّwabil-ḥaqi And with the truthأَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhu We sent it downوَبِٱلْحَقِّwabil-ḥaqi and with the truthنَزَلَ ۗnazala it descendedوَمَآwamā And notأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَarsalnāka We sent youإِلَّاillā exceptمُبَشِّرًۭاmubashiran (as) a bearer of glad tidingsوَنَذِيرًۭاwanadhīran and a warner١٠٥
وَقُرْءَانًۭاwaqur'ānan And the Quranفَرَقْنَـٰهُfaraqnāhu We have dividedلِتَقْرَأَهُۥlitaqra-ahu that you might recite itعَلَىʿalā toٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi the peopleعَلَىٰʿalā atمُكْثٍۢmuk'thin intervalsوَنَزَّلْنَـٰهُwanazzalnāhu And We have revealed itتَنزِيلًۭاtanzīlan (in) stages١٠٦
قُلْqul Sayءَامِنُوا۟āminū Believeبِهِۦٓbihi in itأَوْaw orلَاlā (do) notتُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ ۚtu'minū believeإِنَّinna Indeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīna those whoأُوتُوا۟ūtū were givenٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'ma the knowledgeمِنmin before itقَبْلِهِۦٓqablihi before itإِذَاidhā whenيُتْلَىٰyut'lā it is recitedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim to themيَخِرُّونَyakhirrūna they fallلِلْأَذْقَانِlil'adhqāni on their facesسُجَّدًۭاsujjadan (in) prostration١٠٧
وَيَخِرُّونَwayakhirrūna And they fallلِلْأَذْقَانِlil'adhqāni on their facesيَبْكُونَyabkūna weepingوَيَزِيدُهُمْwayazīduhum and it increases themخُشُوعًۭا ۩khushūʿan (in) humility١٠٩
قُلِquli Sayٱدْعُوا۟id'ʿū Invokeٱللَّهَl-laha Allahأَوِawi orٱدْعُوا۟id'ʿū invokeٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ ۖl-raḥmāna the Most Graciousأَيًّۭاayyan By whatever (name)مَّاmā By whatever (name)تَدْعُوا۟tadʿū you invokeفَلَهُfalahu to Him (belongs)ٱلْأَسْمَآءُl-asmāu the Most Beautiful Namesٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚl-ḥus'nā the Most Beautiful Namesوَلَاwalā And (do) notتَجْهَرْtajhar be loudبِصَلَاتِكَbiṣalātika in your prayersوَلَاwalā and notتُخَافِتْtukhāfit be silentبِهَاbihā thereinوَٱبْتَغِwa-ib'taghi but seekبَيْنَbayna betweenذَٰلِكَdhālika thatسَبِيلًۭاsabīlan a way١١٠
وَقُلِwaquli And sayٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu All Praiseلِلَّهِlillahi (is) for Allahٱلَّذِىalladhī the One Whoلَمْlam has not takenيَتَّخِذْyattakhidh has not takenوَلَدًۭاwaladan a sonوَلَمْwalam and notيَكُنyakun isلَّهُۥlahu for Himشَرِيكٌۭsharīkun a partnerفِىfī inٱلْمُلْكِl-mul'ki the dominionوَلَمْwalam and notيَكُنyakun isلَّهُۥlahu for Himوَلِىٌّۭwaliyyun any protectorمِّنَmina out ofٱلذُّلِّ ۖl-dhuli weaknessوَكَبِّرْهُwakabbir'hu And magnify Himتَكْبِيرًۢاtakbīran (with all) magnificence١١١
