qad
Indeed
aflaḥa
successful
l-mu'minūna
(are) the believers
۝١
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:
alladhīna
Those who
hum
[they]
fī
during
ṣalātihim
their prayers
khāshiʿūna
(are) humbly submissive
۝٢
They who are during their prayer humbly intent
wa-alladhīna
Those who
hum
[they]
ʿani
from
l-laghwi
the vain talk
muʿ'riḍūna
turn away
۝٣
And they who turn away from ill speech
wa-alladhīna
Those who
hum
[they]
lilzzakati
of purification works
fāʿilūna
(are) doers
۝٤
And they who are observant of zakāh
wa-alladhīna
And those who
hum
[they]
lifurūjihim
of their modesty
ḥāfiẓūna
(are) guardians
۝٥
And they who guard their private parts
illā
Except
ʿalā
from
azwājihim
their spouses
aw
or
mā
what
malakat
possess
aymānuhum
their right hands
fa-innahum
then indeed, they
ghayru
(are) not
malūmīna
blameworthy
۝٦
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -
famani
Then whoever
ib'taghā
seeks
warāa
beyond
dhālika
that
fa-ulāika
then those
humu
[they]
l-ʿādūna
(are) the transgressors
۝٧
But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -
wa-alladhīna
And those who
hum
[they]
li-amānātihim
of their trusts
waʿahdihim
and their promise(s)
rāʿūna
(are) observers
۝٨
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
wa-alladhīna
And those who
hum
[they]
ʿalā
over
ṣalawātihim
their prayers
yuḥāfiẓūna
they guard
۝٩
And they who carefully maintain their prayers -
ulāika
Those
humu
[they]
l-wārithūna
(are) the inheritors
۝١٠
Those are the inheritors
alladhīna
Who
yarithūna
will inherit
l-fir'dawsa
the Paradise
hum
They
fīhā
therein
khālidūna
(will) abide forever
۝١١
Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.
walaqad
And indeed
khalaqnā
We created
l-insāna
the humankind
min
from
sulālatin
an essence
min
of
ṭīnin
clay
۝١٢
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
thumma
Then
jaʿalnāhu
We placed him
nuṭ'fatan
(as) a semen-drop
fī
in
qarārin
a resting place
makīnin
firm
۝١٣
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].
thumma
Then
khalaqnā
We created
l-nuṭ'fata
the semen-drop
ʿalaqatan
(into) a clinging substance
fakhalaqnā
then We created
l-ʿalaqata
the clinging substance
muḍ'ghatan
(into) an embryonic lump
fakhalaqnā
then We created
l-muḍ'ghata
the embryonic lump
ʿiẓāman
(into) bones
fakasawnā
then We clothed
l-ʿiẓāma
the bones
laḥman
(with) flesh
thumma
then
anshanāhu
We produce it
khalqan
(as) a creation
ākhara
another
fatabāraka
So blessed is
l-lahu
Allah
aḥsanu
(the) Best
l-khāliqīna
(of) the Creators
۝١٤
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.
thumma
Then
innakum
indeed, you
baʿda
after
dhālika
that
lamayyitūna
surely (will) die
۝١٥
Then indeed, after that you are to die.
thumma
Then
innakum
indeed, you
yawma
(on the) Day
l-qiyāmati
(of) the Resurrection
tub'ʿathūna
will be resurrected
۝١٦
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.
walaqad
And indeed
khalaqnā
We (have) created
fawqakum
above you
sabʿa
seven
ṭarāiqa
paths
wamā
and not
kunnā
We are
ʿani
of
l-khalqi
the creation
ghāfilīna
unaware
۝١٧
And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
wa-anzalnā
And We send down
mina
from
l-samāi
the sky
māan
water
biqadarin
in (due) measure
fa-askannāhu
then We cause it to settle
fī
in
l-arḍi
the earth
wa-innā
And indeed, We
ʿalā
on
dhahābin
taking it away
bihi
taking it away
laqādirūna
surely (are) Able
۝١٨
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
fa-anshanā
Then We produced
lakum
for you
bihi
by it
jannātin
gardens
min
of date-palms
nakhīlin
of date-palms
wa-aʿnābin
and grapevines
lakum
for you
fīhā
in it
fawākihu
(are) fruits
kathīratun
abundant
wamin'hā
and from them
takulūna
you eat
۝١٩
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
washajaratan
And a tree
takhruju
(that) springs forth
min
from
ṭūri
Mount Sinai
saynāa
Mount Sinai
tanbutu
(which) produces
bil-duh'ni
oil
waṣib'ghin
and a relish
lil'ākilīna
for those who eat
۝٢٠
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.
wa-inna
And indeed
lakum
for you
fī
in
l-anʿāmi
the cattle
laʿib'ratan
surely, (is) a lesson
nus'qīkum
We give you drink
mimmā
from what
fī
(is) in
buṭūnihā
their bellies
walakum
and for you
fīhā
in them
manāfiʿu
(are) benefits
kathīratun
many
wamin'hā
and of them
takulūna
you eat
۝٢١
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
waʿalayhā
And on them
waʿalā
and on
l-ful'ki
[the] ships
tuḥ'malūna
you are carried
۝٢٢
And upon them and on ships you are carried.
walaqad
And verily
arsalnā
We sent
nūḥan
Nuh
ilā
to
qawmihi
his people
faqāla
and he said
yāqawmi
O my people
uʿ'budū
Worship
l-laha
Allah
mā
not
lakum
for you
min
(is) any
ilāhin
god
ghayruhu
other than Him
afalā
Then will not
tattaqūna
you fear
۝٢٣
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
faqāla
But said
l-mala-u
the chiefs
alladhīna
(of) those who
kafarū
disbelieved
min
among
qawmihi
his people
mā
This is not
hādhā
This is not
illā
but
basharun
a man
mith'lukum
like you
yurīdu
he wishes
an
to
yatafaḍḍala
assert (his) superiority
ʿalaykum
over you
walaw
and if
shāa
Allah had willed
l-lahu
Allah had willed
la-anzala
surely He (would have) sent down
malāikatan
Angels
mā
Not
samiʿ'nā
we heard
bihādhā
of this
fī
from
ābāinā
our forefathers
l-awalīna
our forefathers
۝٢٤
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.
in
Not
huwa
he
illā
(is) but
rajulun
a man
bihi
in him
jinnatun
(is) madness
fatarabbaṣū
so wait
bihi
concerning him
ḥattā
until
ḥīnin
a time
۝٢٥
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
qāla
He said
rabbi
My Lord
unṣur'nī
Help me
bimā
because
kadhabūni
they deny me
۝٢٦
[Noah] said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
fa-awḥaynā
So We inspired
ilayhi
to him
ani
That
iṣ'naʿi
construct
l-ful'ka
the ship
bi-aʿyuninā
under Our eyes
wawaḥyinā
and Our inspiration
fa-idhā
then when
jāa
comes
amrunā
Our Command
wafāra
and gushes forth
l-tanūru
the oven
fa-us'luk
then put
fīhā
into it
min
of
kullin
every (kind)
zawjayni
(of) mates
ith'nayni
two
wa-ahlaka
and your family
illā
except
man
those
sabaqa
(has) preceded
ʿalayhi
against whom
l-qawlu
the Word
min'hum
thereof
walā
And (do) not
tukhāṭib'nī
address Me
fī
concerning
alladhīna
those who
ẓalamū
wronged
innahum
indeed, they
mugh'raqūna
(are) the ones to be drowned
۝٢٧
So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into it [i.e., the ship] from each [creature] two mates and your family, except him for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.
fa-idhā
And when
is'tawayta
you (have) boarded
anta
you
waman
and whoever
maʿaka
(is) with you
ʿalā
[on]
l-ful'ki
the ship
faquli
then say
l-ḥamdu
Praise
lillahi
(be) to Allah
alladhī
Who
najjānā
(has) saved us
mina
from
l-qawmi
the people
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
۝٢٨
And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allāh who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'
waqul
And say
rabbi
My Lord
anzil'nī
cause me to land
munzalan
(at) a landing place
mubārakan
blessed
wa-anta
and You
khayru
(are) the Best
l-munzilīna
(of) those who cause to land.'
۝٢٩
And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"
inna
Indeed
fī
in
dhālika
that
laāyātin
surely (are) Signs
wa-in
and indeed
kunnā
We are
lamub'talīna
surely testing
۝٣٠
Indeed in that are signs, and indeed, We are ever testing [Our servants].
thumma
Then
anshanā
We produced
min
after them
baʿdihim
after them
qarnan
a generation
ākharīna
another
۝٣١
Then We produced after them a generation of others.
fa-arsalnā
And We sent
fīhim
among them
rasūlan
a Messenger
min'hum
from themselves
ani
[that]
uʿ'budū
Worship
l-laha
Allah
mā
not
lakum
for you
min
(is) any
ilāhin
god
ghayruhu
other than Him
afalā
Then will not
tattaqūna
you fear
۝٣٢
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
waqāla
And said
l-mala-u
the chiefs
min
of
qawmihi
his people
alladhīna
who
kafarū
disbelieved
wakadhabū
and denied
biliqāi
(the) meeting
l-ākhirati
(of) the Hereafter
wa-atrafnāhum
while We had given them luxury
fī
in
l-ḥayati
the life
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
mā
Not
hādhā
(is) this
illā
but
basharun
a man
mith'lukum
like you
yakulu
He eats
mimmā
of what
takulūna
you eat
min'hu
[from it]
wayashrabu
and he drinks
mimmā
of what
tashrabūna
you drink
۝٣٣
And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink.
wala-in
And surely if
aṭaʿtum
you obey
basharan
a man
mith'lakum
like you
innakum
indeed, you
idhan
then
lakhāsirūna
surely (will be) losers
۝٣٤
And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.
ayaʿidukum
Does he promise you
annakum
that you
idhā
when
mittum
you are dead
wakuntum
and you become
turāban
dust
waʿiẓāman
and bones
annakum
that you
mukh'rajūna
(will be) brought forth
۝٣٥
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]?
hayhāta
Far-(fetched)
hayhāta
far-(fetched)
limā
is what
tūʿadūna
you are promised
۝٣٦
How far, how far, is that which you are promised.
in
Not
hiya
it
illā
(is) but
ḥayātunā
our life
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
namūtu
we die
wanaḥyā
and we live
wamā
and not
naḥnu
we
bimabʿūthīna
(will be) resurrected
۝٣٧
It [i.e., life] is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected.
in
Not
huwa
(is) he
illā
but
rajulun
a man
if'tarā
who (has) invented
ʿalā
about
l-lahi
Allah
kadhiban
a lie
wamā
and not
naḥnu
we
lahu
(in) him
bimu'minīna
(are) believers
۝٣٨
He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allāh, and we will not believe him."
qāla
He said
rabbi
My Lord
unṣur'nī
Help me
bimā
because
kadhabūni
they deny me
۝٣٩
He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."
qāla
He said
ʿammā
After a little while
qalīlin
After a little while
layuṣ'biḥunna
surely they will become
nādimīna
regretful
۝٤٠
[Allāh] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful."
fa-akhadhathumu
So seized them
l-ṣayḥatu
the awful cry
bil-ḥaqi
in truth
fajaʿalnāhum
and We made them
ghuthāan
(as) rubbish of dead leaves
fabuʿ'dan
So away
lil'qawmi
with the people
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
۝٤١
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
thumma
Then
anshanā
We produced
min
after them
baʿdihim
after them
qurūnan
a generation
ākharīna
another
۝٤٢
Then We produced after them other generations.
mā
Not
tasbiqu
can precede
min
any
ummatin
nation
ajalahā
its term
wamā
and not
yastakhirūna
they (can) delay (it)
۝٤٣
No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter].
thumma
Then
arsalnā
We sent
rusulanā
Our Messengers
tatrā
(in) succession
kulla
Every time
mā
Every time
jāa
came
ummatan
(to) a nation
rasūluhā
its Messenger
kadhabūhu
they denied him
fa-atbaʿnā
so We made (them) follow
baʿḍahum
some of them
baʿḍan
others
wajaʿalnāhum
and We made them
aḥādītha
narrations
fabuʿ'dan
So away
liqawmin
with a people
lā
not
yu'minūna
they believe
۝٤٤
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe.
thumma
Then
arsalnā
We sent
mūsā
Musa
wa-akhāhu
and his brother
hārūna
Harun
biāyātinā
with Our Signs
wasul'ṭānin
and an authority
mubīnin
clear
۝٤٥
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority
ilā
To
fir'ʿawna
Firaun
wamala-ihi
and his chiefs
fa-is'takbarū
but they behaved arrogantly
wakānū
and they were
qawman
a people
ʿālīna
haughty
۝٤٦
To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people.
faqālū
Then they said
anu'minu
Shall we believe
libasharayni
(in) two men
mith'linā
like ourselves
waqawmuhumā
while their people
lanā
for us
ʿābidūna
(are) slaves
۝٤٧
They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?"
fakadhabūhumā
So they denied them
fakānū
and they became
mina
of
l-muh'lakīna
those who were destroyed
۝٤٨
So they denied them and were of those destroyed.
walaqad
And verily
ātaynā
We gave
mūsā
Musa
l-kitāba
the Scripture
laʿallahum
so that they may
yahtadūna
be guided
۝٤٩
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided.
wajaʿalnā
And We made
ib'na
(the) son
maryama
(of) Maryam
wa-ummahu
and his mother
āyatan
a Sign
waāwaynāhumā
and We sheltered them
ilā
to
rabwatin
a high ground
dhāti
of tranquility
qarārin
of tranquility
wamaʿīnin
and water springs
۝٥٠
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water.
yāayyuhā
O Messengers
l-rusulu
O Messengers
kulū
Eat
mina
of
l-ṭayibāti
the good things
wa-iʿ'malū

ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
innī
Indeed, I Am
bimā
of what
taʿmalūna
you do
ʿalīmun
All-Knower
۝٥١
[Allāh said], "O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing.
wa-inna
And indeed
hādhihi
this
ummatukum
your religion
ummatan
(is) religion
wāḥidatan
one
wa-anā
And I Am
rabbukum
your Lord
fa-ittaqūni
so fear Me
۝٥٢
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
fataqaṭṭaʿū
But they cut off
amrahum
their affair (of unity)
baynahum
between them
zuburan
(into) sects
kullu
each
ḥiz'bin
faction
bimā
in what
ladayhim
they have
fariḥūna
rejoicing
۝٥٣
But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.
fadharhum
So leave them
fī
in
ghamratihim
their confusion
ḥattā
until
ḥīnin
a time
۝٥٤
So leave them in their confusion for a time.
ayaḥsabūna
Do they think
annamā
that what
numidduhum
We extend to them
bihi

mālin
wealth
wabanīna

۝٥٥
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
nusāriʿu
We hasten

fī

the good
bal
Nay
lā
not
yashʿurūna

Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.

And those

And they who do not associate anything with their Lord
wa-alladhīna
And those who

annahum

And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord -

who hasten
fī

It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.

But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides that [i.e., disbelief] which they are doing,

tahjurūna
speaking evil
۝٦٧
In arrogance regarding it, conversing by night, speaking evil.
afalam
Then, do not
yaddabbarū
they ponder
l-qawla
the Word
am
or
jāahum
has come to them
mā
what
lam
not
yati
(had) come
ābāahumu
(to) their forefathers
l-awalīna
(to) their forefathers
۝٦٨
Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?
am
Or
lam
(do) not
yaʿrifū
they recognize
rasūlahum
their Messenger
fahum
so they
lahu
(are) rejecting him
munkirūna
(are) rejecting him
۝٦٩
Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging?
am
Or
yaqūlūna
they say
bihi
In him
jinnatun
(is) madness
bal
Nay
jāahum
he brought them
bil-ḥaqi
the truth
wa-aktharuhum
but most of them
lil'ḥaqqi
to the truth
kārihūna
(are) averse
۝٧٠
Or do they say, "In him is madness"? Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse.
walawi
But if
ittabaʿa
(had) followed
l-ḥaqu
the truth
ahwāahum
their desires
lafasadati
surely (would) have been corrupted
l-samāwātu
the heavens
wal-arḍu
and the earth
waman
and whoever
fīhinna
(is) therein
bal
Nay
ataynāhum
We have brought them
bidhik'rihim
their reminder
fahum
but they
ʿan
from
dhik'rihim
their reminder
muʿ'riḍūna
(are) turning away
۝٧١
But if the Truth [i.e., Allāh] had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.
am
Or
tasaluhum
you ask them
kharjan
(for) a payment
fakharāju
But the payment
rabbika
(of) your Lord
khayrun
(is) best
wahuwa
and He
khayru
(is) the Best
l-rāziqīna
(of) the Providers
۝٧٢
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers.
wa-innaka
And indeed, you
latadʿūhum
certainly call them
ilā
to
ṣirāṭin
(the) Path
mus'taqīmin
Straight
۝٧٣
And indeed, you invite them to a straight path.
wa-inna
And indeed
alladhīna
those who
lā
(do) not
yu'minūna
believe
bil-ākhirati
in the Hereafter
ʿani
from
l-ṣirāṭi
the path
lanākibūna
surely (are) deviating
۝٧٤
But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path.
walaw
And if
raḥim'nāhum
We had mercy on them
wakashafnā
and We removed
mā
what
bihim
(was) on them
min
of
ḍurrin
(the) hardship
lalajjū
surely they would persist
fī
in
ṭugh'yānihim
their transgression
yaʿmahūna
wandering blindly
۝٧٥
And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
walaqad
And verily
akhadhnāhum
We seized them
bil-ʿadhābi
with the punishment
famā
but not
is'takānū
they submit
lirabbihim
to their Lord
wamā
and not
yataḍarraʿūna
they supplicate humbly
۝٧٦
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
ḥattā
Until
idhā
when
fataḥnā
We opened
ʿalayhim
for them
bāban
a gate
dhā
of a punishment
ʿadhābin
of a punishment
shadīdin
severe
idhā
behold
hum
They
fīhi
in it
mub'lisūna
(will be in) despair
۝٧٧
Until when We have opened before them a door of severe punishment, immediately they will be therein in despair.
wahuwa
And He
alladhī
(is) the One Who
ansha-a
produced
lakumu
for you
l-samʿa
the hearing
wal-abṣāra
and the sight
wal-afidata
and the feeling
qalīlan
little
mā
(is) what
tashkurūna
you give thanks
۝٧٨
And it is He who produced for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.
wahuwa
And He
alladhī
(is) the One Who
dhara-akum
multiplied you
fī
in
l-arḍi
the earth
wa-ilayhi
and to Him
tuḥ'sharūna
you will be gathered
۝٧٩
And it is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
wahuwa
And He
alladhī
(is) the One Who
yuḥ'yī
gives life
wayumītu
and causes death
walahu
and for Him
ikh'tilāfu
(is the) alternation
al-layli
(of) the night
wal-nahāri
and the day
afalā
Then will not
taʿqilūna
you reason
۝٨٠
And it is He who gives life and causes death, and His is the alternation of the night and the day. Then will you not reason?
bal
Nay
qālū
they say
mith'la
(the) like
mā
(of) what
qāla
said
l-awalūna
the former (people)
۝٨١
Rather, they say like what the former peoples said.
qālū
They said
a-idhā
What! When
mit'nā
we are dead
wakunnā
and become
turāban
dust
waʿiẓāman
and bones
a-innā
would we
lamabʿūthūna
surely be resurrected
۝٨٢
They said, "When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
laqad
Verily
wuʿid'nā
we have been promised
naḥnu
[we]
waābāunā
and our forefathers
hādhā
this
min
before
qablu
before
in
not
hādhā
(is) this
illā
but
asāṭīru
(the) tales
l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
۝٨٣
We have been promised this, we and our forefathers, before; this is not but legends of the former peoples."
qul
Say
limani
To whom (belongs)
l-arḍu
the earth
waman
and whoever
fīhā
(is) in it
in
if
kuntum
you
taʿlamūna
know
۝٨٤
Say, [O Muḥammad], "To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it, if you should know?"
sayaqūlūna
They will say
lillahi
To Allah
qul
Say
afalā
Then will not
tadhakkarūna
you remember
۝٨٥
They will say, "To Allāh." Say, "Then will you not remember?"
qul
Say
man
Who
rabbu
(is the) Lord
l-samāwāti
(of) the seven heavens
l-sabʿi
(of) the seven heavens
warabbu
and (the) Lord
l-ʿarshi
(of) the Throne
l-ʿaẓīmi
the Great
۝٨٦
Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"
sayaqūlūna
They will say
lillahi
Allah
qul
Say
afalā
Then will not
tattaqūna
you fear (Him)
۝٨٧
They will say, "[They belong] to Allāh." Say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
qul
Say
man
Who is (it)
biyadihi
in Whose Hand(s)
malakūtu
(is the) dominion
kulli
(of) all
shayin
things
wahuwa
and He
yujīru
protects
walā
and no (one)
yujāru
(can) be protected
ʿalayhi
against Him
in
If
kuntum
you
taʿlamūna
know
۝٨٨
Say, "In whose hand is the realm of all things - and He protects while none can protect against Him - if you should know?"
sayaqūlūna
They will say
lillahi
Allah
qul
Say
fa-annā
Then how
tus'ḥarūna
are you deluded
۝٨٩
They will say, "[All belongs] to Allāh." Say, "Then how are you deluded?"
bal
Nay
ataynāhum
We (have) brought them
bil-ḥaqi
the truth
wa-innahum
but indeed, they
lakādhibūna
surely, (are) liars
۝٩٠
Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
mā
Not
ittakhadha
Allah has taken
l-lahu
Allah has taken
min
any
waladin
son
wamā
and not
kāna
is
maʿahu
with Him
min
any
ilāhin
god
idhan
Then
ladhahaba
surely (would have) taken away
kullu
each
ilāhin
god
bimā
what
khalaqa
he created
walaʿalā
and surely would have overpowered
baʿḍuhum
some of them
ʿalā
[on]
baʿḍin
others
sub'ḥāna
Glory be
l-lahi
(to) Allah
ʿammā
above what
yaṣifūna
they attribute
۝٩١
Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].
ʿālimi
Knower
l-ghaybi
(of) the unseen
wal-shahādati
and the witnessed
fataʿālā
exalted is He
ʿammā
above what
yush'rikūna
they associate
۝٩٢
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
qul
Say
rabbi
My Lord
immā
If
turiyannī
You should show me
mā
what
yūʿadūna
they are promised
۝٩٣
Say, [O Muḥammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
rabbi
My Lord
falā
then (do) not
tajʿalnī
place me
fī
among
l-qawmi
the people
l-ẓālimīna
the wrongdoers
۝٩٤
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
wa-innā
And indeed We
ʿalā
on
an
that
nuriyaka
We show you
mā
what
naʿiduhum
We have promised them
laqādirūna
surely able
۝٩٥
And indeed, We are Able to show you what We have promised them.
id'faʿ
Repel
bi-allatī
by that
hiya
which
aḥsanu
(is) best
l-sayi-ata
the evil
naḥnu
We
aʿlamu
know best
bimā
of what
yaṣifūna
they attribute
۝٩٦
Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe.
waqul
And say
rabbi
My Lord
aʿūdhu
I seek refuge
bika
in You
min
from
hamazāti
(the) suggestions
l-shayāṭīni
(of) the evil ones
۝٩٧
And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
wa-aʿūdhu
And I seek refuge
bika
in You
rabbi
My Lord
an
Lest
yaḥḍurūni
they be present with me
۝٩٨
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."
ḥattā
Until
idhā
when
jāa
comes
aḥadahumu
(to) one of them
l-mawtu
the death
qāla
he says
rabbi
My Lord
ir'jiʿūni
Send me back
۝٩٩
[For such is the state of the disbelievers] until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back
laʿallī
That I may
aʿmalu
do
ṣāliḥan
righteous (deeds)
fīmā
in what
taraktu
I left behind
kallā
No
innahā
Indeed, it
kalimatun
(is) a word
huwa
he
qāiluhā
speaks it
wamin
and before them
warāihim
and before them
barzakhun
(is) a barrier
ilā
till
yawmi
(the) Day
yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
۝١٠٠
That I might do righteousness in that which I left behind." No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
fa-idhā
So when
nufikha
is blown
fī
in
l-ṣūri
the trumpet
falā
then not
ansāba
(there) will be relationship
baynahum
among them
yawma-idhin
that Day
walā
and not
yatasāalūna
will they ask each other
۝١٠١
So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
faman
Then (the one) whose
thaqulat
(are) heavy
mawāzīnuhu
his scales
fa-ulāika
then those
humu
they
l-muf'liḥūna
(are) the successful
۝١٠٢
And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful.
waman
But (the one) whose
khaffat
(are) light
mawāzīnuhu
his scales
fa-ulāika
then those
alladhīna
they [who]
khasirū
have lost
anfusahum
their souls
fī
in
jahannama
Hell
khālidūna
they (will) abide forever
۝١٠٣
But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.
talfaḥu
Will burn
wujūhahumu
their faces
l-nāru
the Fire
wahum
and they
fīhā
in it
kāliḥūna
(will) grin with displaced lips
۝١٠٤
The Fire will sear their faces, and they therein will have taut smiles.
alam
Were not
takun
Were not
āyātī
My Verses
tut'lā
recited
ʿalaykum
to you
fakuntum
and you used (to)
bihā
deny them
tukadhibūna
deny them
۝١٠٥
[It will be said], "Were not My verses recited to you and you used to deny them?"
qālū
They (will) say
rabbanā
Our Lord
ghalabat
Overcame
ʿalaynā
[on] us
shiq'watunā
our wretchedness
wakunnā
and we were
qawman
a people
ḍāllīna
astray
۝١٠٦
They will say, "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
rabbanā
Our Lord
akhrij'nā
Bring us out
min'hā
from it
fa-in
then if
ʿud'nā
we return
fa-innā
then indeed, we
ẓālimūna
(would be) wrongdoers
۝١٠٧
Our Lord, remove us from it, and if we were to return [to evil], we would indeed be wrongdoers."
qāla
He (will) say
ikh'saū
Remain despised
fīhā
in it
walā
and (do) not
tukallimūni
speak to Me
۝١٠٨
He will say, "Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.
innahu
Indeed
kāna
(there) was
farīqun
a party
min
of
ʿibādī
My slaves
yaqūlūna
(who) said
rabbanā
Our Lord
āmannā
We believe
fa-igh'fir
so forgive
lanā
us
wa-ir'ḥamnā
and have mercy on us
wa-anta
and You
khayru
(are) best
l-rāḥimīna
(of) those who show mercy
۝١٠٩
Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'
fa-ittakhadhtumūhum
But you took them
sikh'riyyan
(in) mockery
ḥattā
until
ansawkum
they made you forget
dhik'rī
My remembrance
wakuntum
and you used (to)
min'hum
at them
taḍḥakūna
laugh
۝١١٠
But you took them in mockery to the point that they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
innī
Indeed, I
jazaytuhumu
have rewarded them
l-yawma
this Day
bimā
because
ṣabarū
they were patient
annahum
indeed, they
humu
[they]
l-fāizūna
(are) the successful ones
۝١١١
Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance - that they are the attainers [of success]."
qāla
He will say
kam
How long
labith'tum
did you remain
fī
in
l-arḍi
the earth
ʿadada
(in) number
sinīna
(of) years
۝١١٢
[Allāh] will say, "How long did you remain on earth in number of years?"
qālū
They will say
labith'nā
We remained
yawman
a day
aw
or
baʿḍa
a part
yawmin
(of) a day
fasali
but ask
l-ʿādīna
those who keep count
۝١١٣
They will say, "We remained a day or part of a day; ask those who enumerate."
qāla
He will say
in
Not
labith'tum
you stayed
illā
but
qalīlan
a little
law
if
annakum
only you
kuntum
[you]
taʿlamūna
knew
۝١١٤
He will say, "You stayed not but a little - if only you had known.
afaḥasib'tum
Then did you think
annamā
that
khalaqnākum
We created you
ʿabathan
uselessly
wa-annakum
and that you
ilaynā
to Us
lā
not
tur'jaʿūna
will be returned
۝١١٥
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"
fataʿālā
So exalted is
l-lahu
Allah
l-maliku
the King
l-ḥaqu
the Truth
lā
(There is) no
ilāha
god
illā
except
huwa
Him
rabbu
(the) Lord
l-ʿarshi
(of) the Throne
l-karīmi
Honorable
۝١١٦
So exalted is Allāh, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
waman
And whoever
yadʿu
invokes
maʿa
with
l-lahi
Allah
ilāhan
god
ākhara
other
lā
no
bur'hāna
proof
lahu
for him
bihi
in it
fa-innamā
Then only
ḥisābuhu
his account
ʿinda
(is) with
rabbihi
his Lord
innahu
Indeed, [he]
lā
not
yuf'liḥu
will succeed
l-kāfirūna
the disbelievers
۝١١٧
And whoever invokes besides Allāh another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
waqul
And say
rabbi
My Lord
igh'fir
Forgive
wa-ir'ḥam
and have mercy
wa-anta
and You
khayru
(are the) Best
l-rāḥimīna
(of) those who show mercy
۝١١٨
And, [O Muḥammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."
