بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِfal-ʿāṣifāti
And the winds that blow عَصْفًۭاʿaṣfan
violently ٢
And the winds that blow عَصْفًۭاʿaṣfan
violently ٢
And the winds that blow violently
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِwal-nāshirāti
And the ones that scatter نَشْرًۭاnashran
far and wide ٣
And the ones that scatter نَشْرًۭاnashran
far and wide ٣
And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]
فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِfal-fāriqāti
And those who separate فَرْقًۭاfarqan
(by the) Criterion ٤
And those who separate فَرْقًۭاfarqan
(by the) Criterion ٤
And those [angels] who bring criterion
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِfal-mul'qiyāti
And those who bring down ذِكْرًاdhik'ran
(the) Reminder ٥
And those who bring down ذِكْرًاdhik'ran
(the) Reminder ٥
And those [angels] who deliver a message.
عُذْرًاʿudh'ran
(As) justification أَوْaw
or نُذْرًاnudh'ran
warning ٦
(As) justification أَوْaw
or نُذْرًاnudh'ran
warning ٦
As justification or warning,
إِنَّمَاinnamā
Indeed, what تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūna
you are promised لَوَٰقِعٌۭlawāqiʿun
will surely occur ٧
Indeed, what تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūna
you are promised لَوَٰقِعٌۭlawāqiʿun
will surely occur ٧
Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.
فَإِذَاfa-idhā
So when ٱلنُّجُومُl-nujūmu
the stars طُمِسَتْṭumisat
are obliterated ٨
So when ٱلنُّجُومُl-nujūmu
the stars طُمِسَتْṭumisat
are obliterated ٨
So when the stars are obliterated
وَإِذَاwa-idhā
And when ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāu
the heaven فُرِجَتْfurijat
is cleft asunder ٩
And when ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāu
the heaven فُرِجَتْfurijat
is cleft asunder ٩
And when the heaven is opened
وَإِذَاwa-idhā
And when ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibālu
the mountains نُسِفَتْnusifat
are blown away ١٠
And when ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibālu
the mountains نُسِفَتْnusifat
are blown away ١٠
And when the mountains are blown away
وَإِذَاwa-idhā
And when ٱلرُّسُلُl-rusulu
the Messengers أُقِّتَتْuqqitat
are gathered to their appointed time ١١
And when ٱلرُّسُلُl-rusulu
the Messengers أُقِّتَتْuqqitat
are gathered to their appointed time ١١
And when the messengers' time has come...
لِأَىِّli-ayyi
For what يَوْمٍyawmin
Day أُجِّلَتْujjilat
are (these) postponed ١٢
For what يَوْمٍyawmin
Day أُجِّلَتْujjilat
are (these) postponed ١٢
For what Day was it postponed?
لِيَوْمِliyawmi
For (the) Day ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli
(of) Judgment ١٣
For (the) Day ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli
(of) Judgment ١٣
For the Day of Judgement.
وَمَآwamā
And what أَدْرَىٰكَadrāka
will make you know مَاmā
what يَوْمُyawmu
(is the) Day ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli
(of) the Judgment ١٤
And what أَدْرَىٰكَadrāka
will make you know مَاmā
what يَوْمُyawmu
(is the) Day ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli
(of) the Judgment ١٤
And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ١٥
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ١٥
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
أَلَمْalam
Did not نُهْلِكِnuh'liki
We destroy ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former (people) ١٦
Did not نُهْلِكِnuh'liki
We destroy ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former (people) ١٦
Did We not destroy the former peoples?
ثُمَّthumma
Then نُتْبِعُهُمُnut'biʿuhumu
We follow them up ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna
(with) the later ones ١٧
Then نُتْبِعُهُمُnut'biʿuhumu
We follow them up ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna
(with) the later ones ١٧
Then We will follow them with the later ones.
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālika
Thus نَفْعَلُnafʿalu
We deal بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَbil-muj'rimīna
with the criminals ١٨
Thus نَفْعَلُnafʿalu
We deal بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَbil-muj'rimīna
with the criminals ١٨
Thus do We deal with the criminals.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ١٩
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ١٩
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
أَلَمْalam
Did not نَخْلُقكُّمnakhluqkkum
We create you مِّنmin
from مَّآءٍۢmāin
a water مَّهِينٍۢmahīnin
despicable ٢٠
Did not نَخْلُقكُّمnakhluqkkum
We create you مِّنmin
from مَّآءٍۢmāin
a water مَّهِينٍۢmahīnin
despicable ٢٠
Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُfajaʿalnāhu
Then We placed it فِىfī
in قَرَارٍۢqarārin
an abode مَّكِينٍmakīnin
safe ٢١
Then We placed it فِىfī
in قَرَارٍۢqarārin
an abode مَّكِينٍmakīnin
safe ٢١
And We placed it in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb]
إِلَىٰilā
For قَدَرٍۢqadarin
a period مَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūmin
known ٢٢
For قَدَرٍۢqadarin
a period مَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūmin
known ٢٢
For a known extent.
فَقَدَرْنَاfaqadarnā
So We measured فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'ma
and Best ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَl-qādirūna
(are We to) measure ٢٣
So We measured فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'ma
and Best ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَl-qādirūna
(are We to) measure ٢٣
And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٢٤
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٢٤
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
أَلَمْalam
Have not نَجْعَلِnajʿali
We made ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa
the earth كِفَاتًاkifātan
a receptacle ٢٥
Have not نَجْعَلِnajʿali
We made ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa
the earth كِفَاتًاkifātan
a receptacle ٢٥
Have We not made the earth a container
أَحْيَآءًۭaḥyāan
(For the) living وَأَمْوَٰتًۭاwa-amwātan
and (the) dead ٢٦
(For the) living وَأَمْوَٰتًۭاwa-amwātan
and (the) dead ٢٦
Of the living and the dead?
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnā
And We made فِيهَاfīhā
therein رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiya
firmly set mountains شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍۢshāmikhātin
lofty وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمwa-asqaynākum
and We gave you to drink مَّآءًۭmāan
water فُرَاتًۭاfurātan
sweet ٢٧
And We made فِيهَاfīhā
therein رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiya
firmly set mountains شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍۢshāmikhātin
lofty وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمwa-asqaynākum
and We gave you to drink مَّآءًۭmāan
water فُرَاتًۭاfurātan
sweet ٢٧
And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٢٨
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٢٨
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟inṭaliqū
Proceed إِلَىٰilā
to مَاmā
what كُنتُمkuntum
you used to بِهِۦbihi
in it تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūna
deny ٢٩
Proceed إِلَىٰilā
to مَاmā
what كُنتُمkuntum
you used to بِهِۦbihi
in it تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūna
deny ٢٩
[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟inṭaliqū
Proceed إِلَىٰilā
to ظِلٍّۢẓillin
a shadow ذِىdhī
having ثَلَـٰثِthalāthi
three شُعَبٍۢshuʿabin
columns ٣٠
Proceed إِلَىٰilā
to ظِلٍّۢẓillin
a shadow ذِىdhī
having ثَلَـٰثِthalāthi
three شُعَبٍۢshuʿabin
columns ٣٠
Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns.
لَّاlā
No ظَلِيلٍۢẓalīlin
cool shade وَلَاwalā
and not يُغْنِىyugh'nī
availing مِنَmina
against ٱللَّهَبِl-lahabi
the flame ٣١
No ظَلِيلٍۢẓalīlin
cool shade وَلَاwalā
and not يُغْنِىyugh'nī
availing مِنَmina
against ٱللَّهَبِl-lahabi
the flame ٣١
[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."
إِنَّهَاinnahā
Indeed, it تَرْمِىtarmī
throws up بِشَرَرٍۢbishararin
sparks كَٱلْقَصْرِkal-qaṣri
as the fortress ٣٢
Indeed, it تَرْمِىtarmī
throws up بِشَرَرٍۢbishararin
sparks كَٱلْقَصْرِkal-qaṣri
as the fortress ٣٢
Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,
كَأَنَّهُۥka-annahu
As if they (were) جِمَـٰلَتٌۭjimālatun
camels صُفْرٌۭṣuf'run
yellow ٣٣
As if they (were) جِمَـٰلَتٌۭjimālatun
camels صُفْرٌۭṣuf'run
yellow ٣٣
As if they were yellowish [black] camels.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٣٤
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٣٤
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
هَـٰذَاhādhā
This يَوْمُyawmu
(is) a Day لَاlā
not يَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūna
they will speak ٣٥
This يَوْمُyawmu
(is) a Day لَاlā
not يَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūna
they will speak ٣٥
This is a Day they will not speak,
وَلَاwalā
And not يُؤْذَنُyu'dhanu
will it be permitted لَهُمْlahum
for them فَيَعْتَذِرُونَfayaʿtadhirūna
to make excuses ٣٦
And not يُؤْذَنُyu'dhanu
will it be permitted لَهُمْlahum
for them فَيَعْتَذِرُونَfayaʿtadhirūna
to make excuses ٣٦
Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٣٧
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٣٧
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
هَـٰذَاhādhā
This يَوْمُyawmu
(is the) Day ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖl-faṣli
(of) Judgment جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْjamaʿnākum
We have gathered you وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَwal-awalīna
and the former (people) ٣٨
This يَوْمُyawmu
(is the) Day ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖl-faṣli
(of) Judgment جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْjamaʿnākum
We have gathered you وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَwal-awalīna
and the former (people) ٣٨
This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.
فَإِنfa-in
So if كَانَkāna
is لَكُمْlakum
for you كَيْدٌۭkaydun
a plan فَكِيدُونِfakīdūni
then plan against Me ٣٩
So if كَانَkāna
is لَكُمْlakum
for you كَيْدٌۭkaydun
a plan فَكِيدُونِfakīdūni
then plan against Me ٣٩
So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٠
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٠
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
إِنَّinna
Indeed ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīna
the righteous فِىfī
(will be) in ظِلَـٰلٍۢẓilālin
shades وَعُيُونٍۢwaʿuyūnin
and springs ٤١
Indeed ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīna
the righteous فِىfī
(will be) in ظِلَـٰلٍۢẓilālin
shades وَعُيُونٍۢwaʿuyūnin
and springs ٤١
Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs
وَفَوَٰكِهَwafawākiha
And fruits مِمَّاmimmā
from what يَشْتَهُونَyashtahūna
they desire ٤٢
And fruits مِمَّاmimmā
from what يَشْتَهُونَyashtahūna
they desire ٤٢
And fruits from whatever they desire,
كُلُوا۟kulū
Eat وَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabū
and drink هَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan
(in) satisfaction بِمَاbimā
for what كُنتُمْkuntum
you used to تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna
do ٤٣
Eat وَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabū
and drink هَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan
(in) satisfaction بِمَاbimā
for what كُنتُمْkuntum
you used to تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna
do ٤٣
[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
إِنَّاinnā
Indeed, We كَذَٰلِكَkadhālika
thus نَجْزِىnajzī
reward ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers ٤٤
Indeed, We كَذَٰلِكَkadhālika
thus نَجْزِىnajzī
reward ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers ٤٤
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٥
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٥
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
كُلُوا۟kulū
Eat وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟watamattaʿū
and enjoy yourselves قَلِيلًاqalīlan
a little إِنَّكُمinnakum
indeed, you مُّجْرِمُونَmuj'rimūna
(are) criminals ٤٦
Eat وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟watamattaʿū
and enjoy yourselves قَلِيلًاqalīlan
a little إِنَّكُمinnakum
indeed, you مُّجْرِمُونَmuj'rimūna
(are) criminals ٤٦
[O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٧
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٧
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
وَإِذَاwa-idhā
And when قِيلَqīla
it is said لَهُمُlahumu
to them ٱرْكَعُوا۟ir'kaʿū
Bow لَاlā
not يَرْكَعُونَyarkaʿūna
they bow ٤٨
And when قِيلَqīla
it is said لَهُمُlahumu
to them ٱرْكَعُوا۟ir'kaʿū
Bow لَاlā
not يَرْكَعُونَyarkaʿūna
they bow ٤٨
And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.
وَيْلٌۭwaylun
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٩
Woe يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin
that Day لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīna
to the deniers ٤٩
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
فَبِأَىِّfabi-ayyi
Then in what حَدِيثٍۭḥadīthin
statement بَعْدَهُۥbaʿdahu
after it يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna
will they believe ٥٠
Then in what حَدِيثٍۭḥadīthin
statement بَعْدَهُۥbaʿdahu
after it يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūna
will they believe ٥٠
Then in what statement after it [i.e., the Qur’ān] will they believe?
