بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
idhā
When
l-samāu
the sky
inshaqqat
is split asunder
۝١
When the sky has split [open]
wa-adhinat
And has listened
lirabbihā
to its Lord
waḥuqqat
and was obligated
۝٢
And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]
wa-idhā
And when
l-arḍu
the earth
muddat
is spread
۝٣
And when the earth has been extended
wa-alqat
And has cast out
mā
what
fīhā
(is) in it
watakhallat
and becomes empty
۝٤
And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it].
wa-adhinat
And has listened
lirabbihā
to its Lord
waḥuqqat
and was obligated
۝٥
And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -
yāayyuhā
O
l-insānu
mankind
innaka
Indeed, you
kādiḥun
(are) laboring
ilā
to
rabbika
your Lord
kadḥan
(with) exertion
famulāqīhi
and you (will) meet Him
۝٦
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
fa-ammā
Then as for
man
(him) who
ūtiya
is given
kitābahu
his record
biyamīnihi
in his right (hand)
۝٧
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
fasawfa
Then soon
yuḥāsabu
his account will be taken
ḥisāban
an account
yasīran
easy
۝٨
He will be judged with an easy account
wayanqalibu
And he will return
ilā
to
ahlihi
his people
masrūran
happily
۝٩
And return to his people in happiness.
wa-ammā
But as for
man
(him) who
ūtiya
is given
kitābahu
his record
warāa
behind
ẓahrihi
his back
۝١٠
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
fasawfa
Then soon
yadʿū
he will call
thubūran
(for) destruction
۝١١
He will cry out for destruction
wayaṣlā
And he will burn
saʿīran
(in) a Blaze
۝١٢
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
innahu
Indeed, he
kāna
had been
fī
among
ahlihi
his people
masrūran
happy
۝١٣
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
innahu
Indeed, he
ẓanna
(had) thought
an
that
lan
never
yaḥūra
he would return
۝١٤
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].
balā
Yes
inna
Indeed
rabbahu
his Lord
kāna
was
bihi
of him
baṣīran
All-Seer
۝١٥
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.
falā
But nay
uq'simu
I swear
bil-shafaqi
by the twilight glow
۝١٦
So I swear by the twilight glow
wa-al-layli
And the night
wamā
and what
wasaqa
it envelops
۝١٧
And [by] the night and what it envelops
wal-qamari
And the moon
idhā
when
ittasaqa
it becomes full
۝١٨
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
latarkabunna
You will surely embark
ṭabaqan
(to) stage
ʿan
from
ṭabaqin
stage
۝١٩
[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.
famā
So what
lahum
(is) for them
lā
not
yu'minūna
they believe
۝٢٠
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
wa-idhā
And when
quri-a
is recited
ʿalayhimu
to them
l-qur'ānu
the Quran
lā
not
yasjudūna
they prostrate
۝٢١
And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?
bali
Nay
alladhīna
Those who
kafarū
disbelieved
yukadhibūna
deny
۝٢٢
But those who have disbelieved deny,
wal-lahu
And Allah
aʿlamu
(is) most knowing
bimā
of what
yūʿūna
they keep within themselves
۝٢٣
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
fabashir'hum
so give them tidings
biʿadhābin
of a punishment
alīmin
painful
۝٢٤
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
illā
Except
alladhīna
those who
āmanū
believe
waʿamilū
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
lahum
For them
ajrun
(is) a reward
ghayru
never
mamnūnin
ending
۝٢٥
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
