Nay أُقْسِمُuq'simu
I swear بِهَـٰذَاbihādhā
by this ٱلْبَلَدِl-baladi
city ١

Non !... Je jure par cette Cité !

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
وَأَنتَwa-anta
And you حِلٌّۢḥillun
(are) free (to dwell) بِهَـٰذَاbihādhā
in this ٱلْبَلَدِl-baladi
city ٢
And you حِلٌّۢḥillun
(are) free (to dwell) بِهَـٰذَاbihādhā
in this ٱلْبَلَدِl-baladi
city ٢
et toi, tu es un résident dans cette cité -
وَوَالِدٍۢwawālidin
And the begetter وَمَاwamā
and what وَلَدَwalada
he begot ٣
And the begetter وَمَاwamā
and what وَلَدَwalada
he begot ٣
Et par le père et ce qu’il engendre !
لَقَدْlaqad
Certainly خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā
We have created ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insāna
man فِىfī
(to be) in كَبَدٍkabadin
hardship ٤
Certainly خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā
We have created ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insāna
man فِىfī
(to be) in كَبَدٍkabadin
hardship ٤
Nous avons, certes, créé l’homme pour une vie de lutte.
أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabu
Does he think أَنan
that لَّنlan
not يَقْدِرَyaqdira
has power عَلَيْهِʿalayhi
over him أَحَدٌۭaḥadun
anyone ٥
Does he think أَنan
that لَّنlan
not يَقْدِرَyaqdira
has power عَلَيْهِʿalayhi
over him أَحَدٌۭaḥadun
anyone ٥
Pense-t-il que personne ne pourra rien contre lui ?
يَقُولُyaqūlu
He will say أَهْلَكْتُahlaktu
I have squandered مَالًۭاmālan
wealth لُّبَدًاlubadan
abundant ٦
He will say أَهْلَكْتُahlaktu
I have squandered مَالًۭاmālan
wealth لُّبَدًاlubadan
abundant ٦
Il dit : "J’ai gaspillé beaucoup de biens."
أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabu
Does he think أَنan
that لَّمْlam
not يَرَهُۥٓyarahu
sees him أَحَدٌaḥadun
anyone ٧
Does he think أَنan
that لَّمْlam
not يَرَهُۥٓyarahu
sees him أَحَدٌaḥadun
anyone ٧
Pense-t-il que nul ne l’a vu?
أَلَمْalam
Have not نَجْعَلnajʿal
We made لَّهُۥlahu
for him عَيْنَيْنِʿaynayni
two eyes ٨
Have not نَجْعَلnajʿal
We made لَّهُۥlahu
for him عَيْنَيْنِʿaynayni
two eyes ٨
Ne lui avons-Nous pas assigné deux yeux,
وَلِسَانًۭاwalisānan
And a tongue وَشَفَتَيْنِwashafatayni
and two lips ٩
And a tongue وَشَفَتَيْنِwashafatayni
and two lips ٩
et une langue et deux lèvres ?
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُwahadaynāhu
And shown him ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِl-najdayni
the two ways ١٠
And shown him ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِl-najdayni
the two ways ١٠
Ne l’avons-Nous pas guidé aux deux voies .
فَلَاfalā
But not ٱقْتَحَمَiq'taḥama
he has attempted ٱلْعَقَبَةَl-ʿaqabata
the steep path ١١
But not ٱقْتَحَمَiq'taḥama
he has attempted ٱلْعَقَبَةَl-ʿaqabata
the steep path ١١
Or, il ne s’engage pas dans la voie difficile !
وَمَآwamā
And what أَدْرَىٰكَadrāka
can make you know مَاmā
what ٱلْعَقَبَةُl-ʿaqabatu
the steep path (is) ١٢
And what أَدْرَىٰكَadrāka
can make you know مَاmā
what ٱلْعَقَبَةُl-ʿaqabatu
the steep path (is) ١٢
Et qui te dira ce qu’est la voie difficile ?
فَكُّfakku
(It is) freeing رَقَبَةٍraqabatin
a neck ١٣
(It is) freeing رَقَبَةٍraqabatin
a neck ١٣
C’est délier un joug [affranchir un esclave],
أَوْaw
Or إِطْعَـٰمٌۭiṭ'ʿāmun
feeding فِىfī
in يَوْمٍۢyawmin
a day ذِىdhī
of مَسْغَبَةٍۢmasghabatin
severe hunger ١٤
Or إِطْعَـٰمٌۭiṭ'ʿāmun
feeding فِىfī
in يَوْمٍۢyawmin
a day ذِىdhī
of مَسْغَبَةٍۢmasghabatin
severe hunger ١٤
ou nourrir, en un jour de famine,
يَتِيمًۭاyatīman
An orphan ذَاdhā
of مَقْرَبَةٍmaqrabatin
near relationship ١٥
An orphan ذَاdhā
of مَقْرَبَةٍmaqrabatin
near relationship ١٥
un orphelin proche parent.
أَوْaw
Or مِسْكِينًۭاmis'kīnan
a needy person ذَاdhā
in مَتْرَبَةٍۢmatrabatin
misery ١٦
Or مِسْكِينًۭاmis'kīnan
a needy person ذَاdhā
in مَتْرَبَةٍۢmatrabatin
misery ١٦
ou un pauvre dans le dénouement.
ثُمَّthumma
Then كَانَkāna
he is مِنَmina
of ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna
those who ءَامَنُوا۟āmanū
believe وَتَوَاصَوْا۟watawāṣaw
and enjoin (each other) بِٱلصَّبْرِbil-ṣabri
to patience وَتَوَاصَوْا۟watawāṣaw
and enjoin (each other) بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِbil-marḥamati
to compassion ١٧
Then كَانَkāna
he is مِنَmina
of ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna
those who ءَامَنُوا۟āmanū
believe وَتَوَاصَوْا۟watawāṣaw
and enjoin (each other) بِٱلصَّبْرِbil-ṣabri
to patience وَتَوَاصَوْا۟watawāṣaw
and enjoin (each other) بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِbil-marḥamati
to compassion ١٧
Et c’est être, en outre, de ceux qui croient et s’enjoignent mutuellement l’endurance, et s’enjoignent mutuellement la miséricorde.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāika
Those أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati
(of) the right (hand) ١٨
Those أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati
(of) the right (hand) ١٨
Ceux-là sont les gens de la droite ;
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīna
But those who كَفَرُوا۟kafarū
disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātinā
in Our Verses هُمْhum
they أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-mashamati
(of) the left (hand) ١٩
But those who كَفَرُوا۟kafarū
disbelieve بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātinā
in Our Verses هُمْhum
they أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-mashamati
(of) the left (hand) ١٩
alors que ceux qui ne croient pas en Nos versets sont les gens de la gauche.
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim
Over them نَارٌۭnārun
(will be the) Fire مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢmu'ṣadatun
closed in ٢٠
