بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
wal-ṣāfāti
By those lined
ṣaffan
(in) rows
۝١
By those [angels] lined up in rows
fal-zājirāti
And those who drive
zajran
strongly
۝٢
And those who drive [the clouds]
fal-tāliyāti
And those who recite
dhik'ran
(the) Message
۝٣
And those who recite the message,
inna
Indeed
ilāhakum
your Lord
lawāḥidun
(is) surely One
۝٤
Indeed, your God is One,
rabbu
Lord
l-samāwāti
(of) the heavens
wal-arḍi
and the earth
wamā
and what
baynahumā
(is) between both of them
warabbu
and Lord
l-mashāriqi
(of) each point of sunrise
۝٥
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.
innā
Indeed, We
zayyannā
[We] adorned
l-samāa
the sky
l-dun'yā
[the world]
bizīnatin
with an adornment
l-kawākibi
(of) the stars
۝٦
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
waḥif'ẓan
And (to) guard
min
against
kulli
every
shayṭānin
devil
māridin
rebellious
۝٧
And as protection against every rebellious devil
lā
Not
yassammaʿūna
they may listen
ilā
to
l-mala-i
the assembly
l-aʿlā
[the] exalted
wayuq'dhafūna
are pelted
min
from
kulli
every
jānibin
side
۝٨
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,
duḥūran
Repelled
walahum
and for them
ʿadhābun
(is) a punishment
wāṣibun
perpetual
۝٩
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,
illā
Except
man
(him) who
khaṭifa
snatches
l-khaṭfata
(by) theft
fa-atbaʿahu
but follows him
shihābun
a burning flame
thāqibun
piercing
۝١٠
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].
fa-is'taftihim
Then ask them
ahum
Are they
ashaddu
a stronger
khalqan
creation
am
or
man
(those) whom
khalaqnā
We have created
innā
Indeed, We
khalaqnāhum
created them
min
from
ṭīnin
a clay
lāzibin
sticky
۝١١
Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.
bal
Nay
ʿajib'ta
you wonder
wayaskharūna
while they mock
۝١٢
But you wonder, while they mock,
wa-idhā
And when
dhukkirū
they are reminded
lā
not
yadhkurūna
they receive admonition
۝١٣
And when they are reminded, they remember not.
wa-idhā
And when
ra-aw
they see
āyatan
a Sign
yastaskhirūna
they mock
۝١٤
And when they see a sign, they ridicule.
waqālū
And they say
in
Not
hādhā
(is) this
illā
except
siḥ'run
a magic
mubīnun
clear
۝١٥
And say, "This is not but obvious magic.
a-idhā
Is it when
mit'nā
we are dead
wakunnā
and have become
turāban
dust
waʿiẓāman
and bones
a-innā
shall we then
lamabʿūthūna
be certainly resurrected
۝١٦
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
awaābāunā
Or our fathers
l-awalūna
former
۝١٧
And our forefathers [as well]?"
qul
Say
naʿam
Yes
wa-antum
and you
dākhirūna
(will be) humiliated
۝١٨
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."
fa-innamā
Then only
hiya
it
zajratun
(will be) a cry
wāḥidatun
single
fa-idhā
then, behold
hum
They
yanẓurūna
will see
۝١٩
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.
waqālū
And they will say
yāwaylanā
O woe to us
hādhā
This
yawmu
(is the) Day
l-dīni
(of) the Recompense
۝٢٠
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."
hādhā
This
yawmu
(is the) Day
l-faṣli
(of) Judgment
alladhī
which
kuntum
you used to
bihi
[of it]
tukadhibūna
deny
۝٢١
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."
uḥ'shurū
Gather
alladhīna
those who
ẓalamū
wronged
wa-azwājahum
and their kinds
wamā
and what
kānū
they used (to)
yaʿbudūna
worship
۝٢٢
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
min
Besides
dūni
Besides
l-lahi
Allah
fa-ih'dūhum
then lead them
ilā
to
ṣirāṭi
(the) Path
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
۝٢٣
Other than Allāh, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
waqifūhum
And stop them
innahum
indeed, they
masūlūna
(are) to be questioned
۝٢٤
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."
mā
What
lakum
(is) for you
lā
(Why) not
tanāṣarūna
you help one another
۝٢٥
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"
bal
Nay
humu
they
l-yawma
(on) that Day
mus'taslimūna
(will) surrender
۝٢٦
But they, that Day, are in surrender.
wa-aqbala
And will approach
baʿḍuhum
some of them
ʿalā
to
baʿḍin
others
yatasāalūna
questioning one another
۝٢٧
And they will approach one another asking [i.e., blaming] each other.
qālū
They will say
innakum
Indeed, you
kuntum
[you] used (to)
tatūnanā
come (to) us
ʿani
from
l-yamīni
the right
۝٢٨
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."
qālū
They will say
bal
Nay
lam
not
takūnū
you were
mu'minīna
believers
۝٢٩
They [i.e., the oppressors] will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
wamā
And not
kāna
was
lanā
for us
ʿalaykum
over you
min
any
sul'ṭānin
authority
bal
Nay
kuntum
you were
qawman
a people
ṭāghīna
transgressing
۝٣٠
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
faḥaqqa
So has been proved true
ʿalaynā
against us
qawlu
(the) Word
rabbinā
(of) our Lord
innā
indeed, we
ladhāiqūna
(will) certainly taste
۝٣١
So the word [i.e., decree] of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
fa-aghwaynākum
So we led you astray
innā
indeed, we
kunnā
were
ghāwīna
astray
۝٣٢
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
fa-innahum
Then indeed, they
yawma-idhin
that Day
fī
in
l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
mush'tarikūna
(will be) sharers
۝٣٣
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.
innā
Indeed, We
kadhālika
thus
nafʿalu
We deal
bil-muj'rimīna
with the criminals
۝٣٤
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
innahum
Indeed, they
kānū
were
idhā
when
qīla
it was said
lahum
to them
lā
(There is) no
ilāha
god
illā
except
l-lahu
Allah
yastakbirūna
were arrogant
۝٣٥
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allāh," were arrogant
wayaqūlūna
And they say
a-innā
Are we
latārikū
to leave
ālihatinā
our gods
lishāʿirin
for a poet
majnūnin
mad
۝٣٦
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
bal
Nay
jāa
he has brought
bil-ḥaqi
the truth
waṣaddaqa
and confirmed
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
۝٣٧
Rather, he [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
innakum
Indeed, you
ladhāiqū
(will) surely taste
l-ʿadhābi
the punishment
l-alīmi
painful
۝٣٨
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,
wamā
And not
tuj'zawna
you will be recompensed
illā
except
mā
what
kuntum
you used to
taʿmalūna
do
۝٣٩
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -
illā
Except
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
l-lahi
(of) Allah
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
۝٤٠
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.
ulāika
Those
lahum
for them
riz'qun
(will be) a provision
maʿlūmun
determined
۝٤١
Those will have a provision determined -
fawākihu
Fruits
wahum
and they
muk'ramūna
(will) be honored
۝٤٢
Fruits; and they will be honored
fī
In
jannāti
Gardens
l-naʿīmi
(of) Delight
۝٤٣
In gardens of pleasure
ʿalā
On
sururin
thrones
mutaqābilīna
facing each other
۝٤٤
On thrones facing one another.
yuṭāfu
Will be circulated
ʿalayhim
among them
bikasin
a cup
min
from
maʿīnin
a flowing spring
۝٤٥
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,
bayḍāa
White
ladhatin
delicious
lilshāribīna
for the drinkers
۝٤٦
White and delicious to the drinkers;
lā
Not
fīhā
in it
ghawlun
(is) bad effect
walā
and not
hum
they
ʿanhā
from it
yunzafūna
will be intoxicated
۝٤٧
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
waʿindahum
And with them
qāṣirātu
(will be) companions of modest gaze
l-ṭarfi
(will be) companions of modest gaze
ʿīnun
(having) beautiful eyes
۝٤٨
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,
ka-annahunna
As if they were
bayḍun
eggs
maknūnun
well protected
۝٤٩
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
fa-aqbala
And (will) approach
baʿḍuhum
some of them
ʿalā
to
baʿḍin
others
yatasāalūna
questioning one another
۝٥٠
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
qāla
Will say
qāilun
a speaker
min'hum
among them
innī
Indeed, I
kāna
had
lī
for me
qarīnun
a companion
۝٥١
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].
yaqūlu
Who (would) say
a-innaka
Are you indeed
lamina
surely of
l-muṣadiqīna
those who believe
۝٥٢
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
a-idhā
Is (it) when
mit'nā
we have died
wakunnā
and become
turāban
dust
waʿiẓāman
and bones
a-innā
will we
lamadīnūna
surely be brought to Judgment
۝٥٣
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"
qāla
He (will) say
hal
Will
antum
you
muṭṭaliʿūna
be looking
۝٥٤
He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"
fa-iṭṭalaʿa
Then he (will) look
faraāhu
and see him
fī
in
sawāi
(the) midst
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
۝٥٥
And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.
qāla
He (will) say
tal-lahi
By Allah
in
verily
kidtta
you almost
latur'dīni
ruined me
۝٥٦
He will say, "By Allāh, you almost ruined me.
walawlā
And if not
niʿ'matu
(for the) Grace
rabbī
(of) my Lord
lakuntu
certainly, I (would) have been
mina
among
l-muḥ'ḍarīna
those brought
۝٥٧
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].
afamā
Then are not
naḥnu
we
bimayyitīna
(to) die
۝٥٨
Then, are we not to die
illā
Except
mawtatanā
our death
l-ūlā
the first
wamā
and not
naḥnu
we
bimuʿadhabīna
will be punished
۝٥٩
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"
inna
Indeed
hādhā
this
lahuwa
surely
l-fawzu
(is) the attainment
l-ʿaẓīmu
great
۝٦٠
Indeed, this is the great attainment.
limith'li
For (the) like
hādhā
(of) this
falyaʿmali
let work
l-ʿāmilūna
the workers
۝٦١
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
adhālika
Is that
khayrun
better
nuzulan
(as) hospitality
am
or
shajaratu
(the) tree
l-zaqūmi
(of) Zaqqum
۝٦٢
Is that [i.e., Paradise] a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqūm?
innā
Indeed, We
jaʿalnāhā
[We] have made it
fit'natan
a trial
lilẓẓālimīna
for the wrongdoers
۝٦٣
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
innahā
Indeed, it
shajaratun
(is) a tree
takhruju
that grows
fī
in
aṣli
(the) bottom
l-jaḥīmi
(of) the Hellfire
۝٦٤
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
ṭalʿuhā
Its emerging fruit
ka-annahu
(is) as if it
ruūsu
(was) heads
l-shayāṭīni
(of) the devils
۝٦٥
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
fa-innahum
And indeed, they
laākilūna
(will) surely eat
min'hā
from it
famāliūna
and fill
min'hā
with it
l-buṭūna
(their) bellies
۝٦٦
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
thumma
Then
inna
indeed
lahum
for them
ʿalayhā
in it
lashawban
(is) a mixture
min
of
ḥamīmin
boiling water
۝٦٧
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
thumma
Then
inna
indeed
marjiʿahum
their return
la-ilā
(will) surely be to
l-jaḥīmi
the Hellfire
۝٦٨
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.
innahum
Indeed, they
alfaw
found
ābāahum
their fathers
ḍāllīna
astray
۝٦٩
Indeed they found their fathers astray.
fahum
So they
ʿalā
on
āthārihim
their footsteps
yuh'raʿūna
they hastened
۝٧٠
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
walaqad
And verily
ḍalla
went astray
qablahum
before them
aktharu
most
l-awalīna
(of) the former (people)
۝٧١
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
walaqad
And verily
arsalnā
We sent
fīhim
among them
mundhirīna
warners
۝٧٢
And We had already sent among them warners.
fa-unẓur
Then see
kayfa
how
kāna
was
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
l-mundharīna
(of) those who were warned
۝٧٣
Then look how was the end of those who were warned -
illā
Except
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
l-lahi
(of) Allah
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
۝٧٤
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.
walaqad
And verily
nādānā
called Us
nūḥun
Nuh
falaniʿ'ma
and Best
l-mujībūna
(are We as) Responders
۝٧٥
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
wanajjaynāhu
And We saved him
wa-ahlahu
and his family
mina
from
l-karbi
the distress
l-ʿaẓīmi
the great
۝٧٦
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
wajaʿalnā
And We made
dhurriyyatahu
his offspring
humu
[they]
l-bāqīna
the survivors
۝٧٧
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
wataraknā
And We left
ʿalayhi
for him
fī
among
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
۝٧٨
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
salāmun
Peace be
ʿalā
upon
nūḥin
Nuh
fī
among
l-ʿālamīna
the worlds
۝٧٩
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
innā
Indeed, We
kadhālika
thus
najzī
[We] reward
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
۝٨٠
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
innahu
Indeed, he
min
(was) of
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
l-mu'minīna
believing
۝٨١
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
thumma
Then
aghraqnā
We drowned
l-ākharīna
the others
۝٨٢
Then We drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers].
wa-inna
And indeed
min
among
shīʿatihi
his kind
la-ib'rāhīma
(was) surely Ibrahim
۝٨٣
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,
idh
When
jāa
he came
rabbahu
(to) his Lord
biqalbin
with a heart
salīmin
sound
۝٨٤
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
idh
When
qāla
he said
li-abīhi
to his father
waqawmihi
and his people
mādhā
What is it
taʿbudūna
you worship
۝٨٥
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
a-if'kan
Is it falsehood
ālihatan
gods
dūna
other than
l-lahi
Allah
turīdūna
(that) you desire
۝٨٦
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allāh you desire?
famā
Then what
ẓannukum
(do) you think
birabbi
about (the) Lord
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
۝٨٧
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"
fanaẓara
Then he glanced
naẓratan
a glance
fī
at
l-nujūmi
the stars
۝٨٨
And he cast a look at the stars.
faqāla
And he said
innī
Indeed, I am
saqīmun
sick
۝٨٩
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."
fatawallaw
So they turned away
ʿanhu
from him
mud'birīna
departing
۝٩٠
So they turned away from him, departing.
farāgha
Then he turned
ilā
to
ālihatihim
their gods
faqāla
and said
alā
Do not
takulūna
you eat
۝٩١
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?
mā
What (is)
lakum
for you
lā
not
tanṭiqūna
you speak
۝٩٢
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?".
farāgha
Then he turned
ʿalayhim
upon them
ḍarban
striking
bil-yamīni
with the right hand
۝٩٣
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.
fa-aqbalū
Then they advanced
ilayhi
towards him
yaziffūna
hastening
۝٩٤
Then they [i.e., the people] came toward him, hastening.
qāla
He said
ataʿbudūna
Do you worship
mā
what
tanḥitūna
you carve
۝٩٥
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,
wal-lahu
While Allah
khalaqakum
created you
wamā
and what
taʿmalūna
you make
۝٩٦
While Allāh created you and that which you do?"
qālū
They said
ib'nū
Build
lahu
for him
bun'yānan
a structure
fa-alqūhu
and throw him
fī
into
l-jaḥīmi
the blazing Fire
۝٩٧
They said, "Construct for him a structure [i.e., furnace] and throw him into the burning fire."
fa-arādū
And they intended
bihi
for him
kaydan
a plot
fajaʿalnāhumu
but We made them
l-asfalīna
the lowest
۝٩٨
And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the most debased.
waqāla
And he said
innī
Indeed, I am
dhāhibun
going
ilā
to
rabbī
my Lord
sayahdīni
He will guide me
۝٩٩
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.
rabbi
My Lord
hab
grant
lī
me
mina
of
l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
۝١٠٠
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
fabasharnāhu
So We gave him the glad tidings
bighulāmin
of a boy
ḥalīmin
forbearing
۝١٠١
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
falammā
Then when
balagha
he reached
maʿahu
the (age of) working with him
l-saʿya
the (age of) working with him
qāla
he said
yābunayya
O my son
innī
Indeed, I
arā
have seen
fī
in
l-manāmi
the dream
annī
that I am
adhbaḥuka
sacrificing you
fa-unẓur
so look
mādhā
what
tarā
you see
qāla
He said
yāabati
O my father
if'ʿal
Do
mā
what
tu'maru
you are commanded
satajidunī
You will find me
in
if
shāa
Allah wills
l-lahu
Allah wills
mina
of
l-ṣābirīna
the patient ones
۝١٠٢
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast."
falammā
Then when
aslamā
both of them had submitted
watallahu
and he put him down
lil'jabīni
upon his forehead
۝١٠٣
And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,
wanādaynāhu
And We called out to him
an
that
yāib'rāhīmu
O Ibrahim
۝١٠٤
We called to him, "O Abraham,
qad
Verily
ṣaddaqta
you have fulfilled
l-ru'yā
the vision
innā
Indeed, We
kadhālika
thus
najzī
[We] reward
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
۝١٠٥
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
inna
Indeed
hādhā
this
lahuwa
(was) surely [it]
l-balāu
the trial
l-mubīnu
clear
۝١٠٦
Indeed, this was the clear trial.
wafadaynāhu
And We ransomed him
bidhib'ḥin
with a sacrifice
ʿaẓīmin
great
۝١٠٧
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
wataraknā
And We left
ʿalayhi
for him
fī
among
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
۝١٠٨
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
salāmun
Peace be
ʿalā
on
ib'rāhīma
Ibrahim
۝١٠٩
"Peace upon Abraham."
kadhālika
Thus
najzī
We reward
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
۝١١٠
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
innahu
Indeed, he (was)
min
of
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
l-mu'minīna
believing
۝١١١
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
wabasharnāhu
And We gave him glad tidings
bi-is'ḥāqa
of Isaac
nabiyyan
a Prophet
mina
among
l-ṣāliḥīna
the righteous
۝١١٢
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.
wabāraknā
And We blessed
ʿalayhi
him
waʿalā
and [on]
is'ḥāqa
Isaac
wamin
And of
dhurriyyatihimā
their offspring
muḥ'sinun
(are) good-doers
waẓālimun
and unjust
linafsihi
to himself
mubīnun
clear
۝١١٣
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself [i.e., sinner].
walaqad
And verily
manannā
We conferred Favor
ʿalā
upon
mūsā
Musa
wahārūna
and Harun
۝١١٤
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.
wanajjaynāhumā
And We saved both of them
waqawmahumā
and their people
mina
from
l-karbi
the distress
l-ʿaẓīmi
the great
۝١١٥
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,
wanaṣarnāhum
And We helped them
fakānū
so they became
humu
so they became
l-ghālibīna
the victors
۝١١٦
And We supported them so it was they who overcame.
waātaynāhumā
And We gave both of them
l-kitāba
the Book
l-mus'tabīna
the clear
۝١١٧
And We gave them the explicit Scripture [i.e., the Torah],
wahadaynāhumā
And We guided both of them
l-ṣirāṭa
(to) the Path
l-mus'taqīma
the Straight
۝١١٨
And We guided them on the straight path.
wataraknā
And We left
ʿalayhimā
for both of them
fī
among
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
۝١١٩
And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:
salāmun
Peace be
ʿalā
upon
mūsā
Musa
wahārūna
and Harun
۝١٢٠
"Peace upon Moses and Aaron."
innā
Indeed, We
kadhālika
thus
najzī
reward
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
۝١٢١
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
innahumā
Indeed, both of them
min
(were) of
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
l-mu'minīna
believing
۝١٢٢
Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.
wa-inna
And indeed
il'yāsa
Elijah
lamina
(was) surely of
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
۝١٢٣
And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,
idh
When
qāla
he said
liqawmihi
to his people
alā
Will not
tattaqūna
you fear
۝١٢٤
When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allāh?
atadʿūna
Do you call
baʿlan
Baal
watadharūna
and you forsake
aḥsana
(the) Best
l-khāliqīna
(of) Creators
۝١٢٥
Do you call upon Baʿl and leave the best of creators -
al-laha
Allah
rabbakum
your Lord
warabba
and (the) Lord
ābāikumu
(of) your forefathers
l-awalīna
(of) your forefathers
۝١٢٦
Allāh, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"
fakadhabūhu
But they denied him
fa-innahum
so indeed, they
lamuḥ'ḍarūna
(will) surely be brought
۝١٢٧
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],
illā
Except
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
l-lahi
(of) Allah
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen ones
۝١٢٨
Except the chosen servants of Allāh.
wataraknā
And We left
ʿalayhi
for him
fī
among
l-ākhirīna
the later generations
۝١٢٩
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
salāmun
Peace be
ʿalā
upon
il yāsīna
Elijah
۝١٣٠
"Peace upon Elias."
innā
Indeed, We
kadhālika
thus
najzī
reward
l-muḥ'sinīna
the good-doers
۝١٣١
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
innahu
Indeed, he (was)
min
of
ʿibādinā
Our slaves
l-mu'minīna
believing
۝١٣٢
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
wa-inna
And indeed
lūṭan
Lut
lamina
(was) of
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
۝١٣٣
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.
idh
When
najjaynāhu
We saved him
wa-ahlahu
and his family
ajmaʿīna
all
۝١٣٤
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,
illā
Except
ʿajūzan
an old woman
fī
(was) among
l-ghābirīna
those who remained behind
۝١٣٥
Except an old woman [i.e., his wife] among those who remained [with the evildoers].
thumma
Then
dammarnā
We destroyed
l-ākharīna
the others
۝١٣٦
Then We destroyed the others.
wa-innakum
And indeed, you
latamurrūna
surely pass
ʿalayhim
by them
muṣ'biḥīna
(in the) morning
۝١٣٧
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning
wabi-al-layli
And at night
afalā
Then will not
taʿqilūna
you use reason
۝١٣٨
And at night. Then will you not use reason?
wa-inna
And indeed
yūnusa
Yunus
lamina
(was) surely of
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
۝١٣٩
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.
idh
When
abaqa
he ran away
ilā
to
l-ful'ki
the ship
l-mashḥūni
laden
۝١٤٠
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.
fasāhama
Then he drew lots
fakāna
and was
mina
of
l-mud'ḥaḍīna
the losers
۝١٤١
And he drew lots and was among the losers.
fal-taqamahu
Then swallowed him
l-ḥūtu
the fish
wahuwa
while he
mulīmun
(was) blameworthy
۝١٤٢
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.
falawlā
And if not
annahu
that he
kāna
was
mina
of
l-musabiḥīna
those who glorify
۝١٤٣
And had he not been of those who exalt Allāh,
lalabitha
Certainly, he (would have) remained
fī
in
baṭnihi
its belly
ilā
until
yawmi
the Day
yub'ʿathūna
they are resurrected
۝١٤٤
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.
fanabadhnāhu
But We cast him
bil-ʿarāi
onto the open shore
wahuwa
while he
saqīmun
(was) ill
۝١٤٥
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.
wa-anbatnā
And We caused to grow
ʿalayhi
over him
shajaratan
a plant
min
of
yaqṭīnin
gourd
۝١٤٦
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.
wa-arsalnāhu
And We sent him
ilā
to
mi-ati
a hundred
alfin
thousand
aw
or
yazīdūna
more
۝١٤٧
And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.
faāmanū
And they believed
famattaʿnāhum
so We gave them enjoyment
ilā
for
ḥīnin
a while
۝١٤٨
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.
fa-is'taftihim
Then ask them
alirabbika
Does your Lord
l-banātu
(have) daughters
walahumu
while for them
l-banūna
(are) sons
۝١٤٩
So inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?
am
Or
khalaqnā
did We create
l-malāikata
the Angels
ināthan
females
wahum
while they
shāhidūna
(were) witnesses
۝١٥٠
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"
alā
No doubt
innahum
indeed, they
min
of
if'kihim
their falsehood
layaqūlūna
[they] say
۝١٥١
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,
walada
Allah has begotten
l-lahu
Allah has begotten
wa-innahum
and indeed, they
lakādhibūna
surely (are) liars
۝١٥٢
"Allāh has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.
aṣṭafā
Has He chosen
l-banāti
[the] daughters
ʿalā
over
l-banīna
sons
۝١٥٣
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
mā
What is with you
lakum
What is with you
kayfa
How
taḥkumūna
you judge
۝١٥٤
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?
afalā
Then will not
tadhakkarūna
you pay heed
۝١٥٥
Then will you not be reminded?
am
Or
lakum
(is) for you
sul'ṭānun
an authority
mubīnun
clear
۝١٥٦
Or do you have a clear authority?
fatū
Then bring
bikitābikum
your book
in
if
kuntum
you are
ṣādiqīna
truthful
۝١٥٧
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.
wajaʿalū
And they have made
baynahu
between Him
wabayna
and between
l-jinati
the jinn
nasaban
a relationship
walaqad
but certainly
ʿalimati
know
l-jinatu
the jinn
innahum
that they
lamuḥ'ḍarūna
(will) surely be brought
۝١٥٨
And they have made [i.e., claimed] between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought [to punishment].
sub'ḥāna
Glory be
l-lahi
(to) Allah
ʿammā
above what
yaṣifūna
they attribute
۝١٥٩
Exalted is Allāh above what they describe,
illā
Except
ʿibāda
(the) slaves
l-lahi
(of) Allah
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen
۝١٦٠
Except the chosen servants of Allāh [who do not share in that sin].
fa-innakum
So indeed, you
wamā
and what
taʿbudūna
you worship
۝١٦١
So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,
mā
Not
antum
you
ʿalayhi
from Him
bifātinīna
can tempt away (anyone)
۝١٦٢
You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
illā
Except
man
who
huwa
he
ṣāli
(is) to burn
l-jaḥīmi
(in) the Hellfire
۝١٦٣
Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.
wamā
And not
minnā
among us
illā
except
lahu
for him
maqāmun
(is) a position
maʿlūmun
known
۝١٦٤
[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.
wa-innā
And indeed, we
lanaḥnu
surely, [we]
l-ṣāfūna
stand in rows
۝١٦٥
And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].
wa-innā
And indeed, we
lanaḥnu
surely, [we]
l-musabiḥūna
glorify (Allah)
۝١٦٦
And indeed, we are those who exalt Allāh."
wa-in
And indeed
kānū
they used to
layaqūlūna
say
۝١٦٧
And indeed, they [i.e., the disbelievers] used to say,
law
If
anna
that
ʿindanā
we had
dhik'ran
a reminder
mina
from
l-awalīna
the former (people)
۝١٦٨
"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,
lakunnā
Certainly, we (would) have been
ʿibāda
slaves
l-lahi
(of) Allah
l-mukh'laṣīna
the chosen
۝١٦٩
We would have been the chosen servants of Allāh."
fakafarū
But they disbelieved
bihi
in it
fasawfa
so soon
yaʿlamūna
they will know
۝١٧٠
But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know.
walaqad
And verily
sabaqat
has preceded
kalimatunā
Our Word
liʿibādinā
for Our slaves
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
۝١٧١
And Our word [i.e., decree] has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,
innahum
Indeed they
lahumu
surely they
l-manṣūrūna
(would be) the victorious
۝١٧٢
[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
wa-inna
And indeed
jundanā
Our host
lahumu
surely, they
l-ghālibūna
(will be) those who overcome
۝١٧٣
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers [i.e., the believers] will be those who overcome.
fatawalla
So turn away
ʿanhum
from them
ḥattā
until
ḥīnin
a time
۝١٧٤
So, [O Muḥammad], leave them for a time.
wa-abṣir'hum
And see them
fasawfa
so soon
yub'ṣirūna
they will see
۝١٧٥
And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.
afabiʿadhābinā
Then is (it) for Our punishment
yastaʿjilūna
they hasten
۝١٧٦
Then for Our punishment are they impatient?
fa-idhā
But when
nazala
it descends
bisāḥatihim
in their territory
fasāa
then evil (will be)
ṣabāḥu
(the) morning
l-mundharīna
(for) those who were warned
۝١٧٧
But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.
watawalla
So turn away
ʿanhum
from them
ḥattā
for
ḥīnin
a time
۝١٧٨
And leave them for a time.
wa-abṣir
And see
fasawfa
so soon
yub'ṣirūna
they will see
۝١٧٩
And see, for they are going to see.
sub'ḥāna
Glory
rabbika
(be to) your Lord
rabbi
(the) Lord
l-ʿizati
(of) Honor
ʿammā
above what
yaṣifūna
they attribute
۝١٨٠
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.
wasalāmun
And peace be
ʿalā
upon
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers
۝١٨١
And peace upon the messengers.
wal-ḥamdu
And all praise
lillahi
(be) to Allah
rabbi
(the) Lord
l-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds
۝١٨٢
And praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
