بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
alladhīna
Those who
kafarū
disbelieve
waṣaddū
and turn away
ʿan
from
sabīli
(the) way of Allah
l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
aḍalla
He will cause to be lost
aʿmālahum
their deeds
۝١
Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allāh - He will waste their deeds.
wa-alladhīna
And those who
āmanū
believe
waʿamilū
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
waāmanū
and believe
bimā
in what
nuzzila
is revealed
ʿalā
to
muḥammadin
Muhammad
wahuwa
and it
l-ḥaqu
(is) the truth
min
from
rabbihim
their Lord
kaffara
He will remove
ʿanhum
from them
sayyiātihim
their misdeeds
wa-aṣlaḥa
and improve
bālahum
their condition
۝٢
And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muḥammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.
dhālika
That
bi-anna
(is) because
alladhīna
those who
kafarū
disbelieve
ittabaʿū
follow
l-bāṭila
falsehood
wa-anna
and that
alladhīna
those who
āmanū
believe
ittabaʿū
follow
l-ḥaqa
(the) truth
min
from
rabbihim
their Lord
kadhālika
Thus
yaḍribu
Allah presents
l-lahu
Allah presents
lilnnāsi
to the people
amthālahum
their similitudes
۝٣
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allāh present to the people their comparisons.
fa-idhā
So when
laqītumu
you meet
alladhīna
those who
kafarū
disbelieve
faḍarba
then strike
l-riqābi
the necks
ḥattā
until
idhā
when
athkhantumūhum
you have subdued them
fashuddū
then bind firmly
l-wathāqa
the bond
fa-immā
then either
mannan
a favor
baʿdu
afterwards
wa-immā
or
fidāan
ransom
ḥattā
until
taḍaʿa
lays down
l-ḥarbu
the war
awzārahā
its burdens
dhālika
That
walaw
And if
yashāu
Allah had willed
l-lahu
Allah had willed
la-intaṣara
surely, He could have taken retribution
min'hum
from them
walākin
but
liyabluwā
to test
baʿḍakum
some of you
bibaʿḍin
with others
wa-alladhīna
And those who
qutilū
are killed
fī
in
sabīli
(the) way of Allah
l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
falan
then never
yuḍilla
He will cause to be lost
aʿmālahum
their deeds
۝٤
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure [their] bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allāh had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allāh - never will He waste their deeds.
sayahdīhim
He will guide them
wayuṣ'liḥu
and improve
bālahum
their condition
۝٥
He will guide them and amend their condition
wayud'khiluhumu
And admit them
l-janata
(to) Paradise
ʿarrafahā
He has made it known
lahum
to them
۝٦
And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them.
yāayyuhā
O you who believe
alladhīna
O you who believe
āmanū
O you who believe
in
If
tanṣurū
you help
l-laha
Allah
yanṣur'kum
He will help you
wayuthabbit
and make firm
aqdāmakum
your feet
۝٧
O you who have believed, if you support Allāh, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.
wa-alladhīna
But those who
kafarū
disbelieve
fataʿsan
destruction (is)
lahum
for them
wa-aḍalla
and He will cause to be lost
aʿmālahum
their deeds
۝٨
But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds.
dhālika
That
bi-annahum
(is) because they
karihū
hate
mā
what
anzala
Allah has revealed
l-lahu
Allah has revealed
fa-aḥbaṭa
so He has made worthless
aʿmālahum
their deeds
۝٩
That is because they disliked what Allāh revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
afalam
Do not
yasīrū
they travel
fī
in
l-arḍi
the earth
fayanẓurū
and see
kayfa
how
kāna
was
ʿāqibatu
(the) end
alladhīna
(of) those
min
before them
qablihim
before them
dammara
Allah destroyed
l-lahu
Allah destroyed
ʿalayhim
[over] them
walil'kāfirīna
and for the disbelievers
amthāluhā
its likeness
۝١٠
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allāh destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable.
dhālika
That
bi-anna
(is) because
l-laha
Allah
mawlā
(is the) Protector
alladhīna
(of) those who
āmanū
believe
wa-anna
and that
l-kāfirīna
the disbelievers
lā
(there is) no
mawlā
protector
lahum
for them
۝١١
That is because Allāh is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector.
inna
Indeed
l-laha
Allah
yud'khilu
will admit
alladhīna
those who
āmanū
believe
waʿamilū
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
righteous deeds
jannātin
(to) Gardens
tajrī
flow
min
from
taḥtihā
underneath it
l-anhāru
the rivers
wa-alladhīna
but those who
kafarū
disbelieve
yatamattaʿūna
they enjoy
wayakulūna
and eat
kamā
as
takulu
eat
l-anʿāmu
the cattle
wal-nāru
and the Fire
mathwan
(will be) an abode
lahum
for them
۝١٢
Indeed, Allāh will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.
waka-ayyin
And how many
min
of
qaryatin
a town
hiya
which
ashaddu
(was) stronger
quwwatan
(in) strength
min
than
qaryatika
your town
allatī
which
akhrajatka
has driven you out
ahlaknāhum
We destroyed them
falā
so no
nāṣira
helper
lahum
for them
۝١٣
And how many a city was stronger than your city [i.e., Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.
afaman
Then is (he) who
kāna
is
ʿalā
on
bayyinatin
a clear proof
min
from
rabbihi
his Lord
kaman
like (he) who
zuyyina
is made attractive
lahu
to him
sūu
(the) evil
ʿamalihi
(of) his deeds
wa-ittabaʿū
while they follow
ahwāahum
their desires
۝١٤
So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?
mathalu
A parable
l-janati
(of) Paradise
allatī
which
wuʿida
is promised
l-mutaqūna
(to) the righteous
fīhā
Therein
anhārun
(are) rivers
min
of
māin
water
ghayri
not
āsinin
polluted
wa-anhārun
and rivers
min
of
labanin
milk
lam
not
yataghayyar
changes
ṭaʿmuhu
its taste
wa-anhārun
and rivers
min
of
khamrin
wine
ladhatin
delicious
lilshāribīna
for (the) drinkers
wa-anhārun
and rivers
min
of
ʿasalin
honey
muṣaffan
purified
walahum
and for them
fīhā
therein
min
of
kulli
all
l-thamarāti
fruits
wamaghfiratun
and forgiveness
min
from
rabbihim
their Lord
kaman
like he who
huwa
like he who
khālidun
(will) abide forever
fī
in
l-nāri
the Fire
wasuqū
and they will be given to drink
māan
water
ḥamīman
boiling
faqaṭṭaʿa
so it cuts into pieces
amʿāahum
their intestines
۝١٥
Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord... [Are its inhabitants] like those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?
wamin'hum
And among them
man
(are some) who
yastamiʿu
listen
ilayka
to you
ḥattā
until
idhā
when
kharajū
they depart
min
from
ʿindika
you
qālū
they say
lilladhīna
to those who
ūtū
were given
l-ʿil'ma
the knowledge
mādhā
What
qāla
(has) he said
ānifan
just now
ulāika
Those
alladhīna
(are) the ones
ṭabaʿa
Allah has set a seal
l-lahu
Allah has set a seal
ʿalā
upon
qulūbihim
their hearts
wa-ittabaʿū
and they follow
ahwāahum
their desires
۝١٦
And among them, [O Muḥammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allāh has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires.
wa-alladhīna
And those who
ih'tadaw
accept guidance
zādahum
He increases them
hudan
(in) guidance
waātāhum
and gives them
taqwāhum
their righteousness
۝١٧
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness.
fahal
Then do
yanẓurūna
they wait
illā
but
l-sāʿata
(for) the Hour
an
that
tatiyahum
it should come to them
baghtatan
suddenly
faqad
But indeed
jāa
have come
ashrāṭuhā
its indications
fa-annā
Then how
lahum
to them
idhā
when
jāathum
has come to them
dhik'rāhum
their reminder
۝١٨
Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then how [i.e., what good] to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance?
fa-iʿ'lam
So know
annahu
that [He]
lā
(there is) no
ilāha
god
illā
but
l-lahu
Allah
wa-is'taghfir
and ask forgiveness
lidhanbika
for your sin
walil'mu'minīna
and for the believing men
wal-mu'mināti
and the believing women
wal-lahu
And Allah
yaʿlamu
knows
mutaqallabakum
your movement
wamathwākum
and your resting places
۝١٩
So know, [O Muḥammad], that there is no deity except Allāh and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allāh knows of your movement and your resting place.
wayaqūlu
And say
alladhīna
those who
āmanū
believe
lawlā
Why not
nuzzilat
has been revealed
sūratun
a Surah
fa-idhā
But when
unzilat
is revealed
sūratun
a Surah
muḥ'kamatun
precise
wadhukira
and is mentioned
fīhā
in it
l-qitālu
the fighting
ra-ayta
you see
alladhīna
those who
fī
in
qulūbihim
their hearts
maraḍun
(is) a disease
yanẓurūna
looking
ilayka
at you
naẓara
a look
l-maghshiyi
(of) one fainting
ʿalayhi
(of) one fainting
mina
from
l-mawti
the death
fa-awlā
But more appropriate
lahum
for them
۝٢٠
Those who believe say, "Why has a sūrah not been sent down?" But when a precise sūrah is revealed and battle is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them [would have been]
ṭāʿatun
(Is) obedience
waqawlun
and a word
maʿrūfun
kind
fa-idhā
And when
ʿazama
(is) determined
l-amru
the matter
falaw
then if
ṣadaqū
they had been true
l-laha
(to) Allah
lakāna
surely, it would have been
khayran
better
lahum
for them
۝٢١
Obedience and good words. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined, if they had been true to Allāh, it would have been better for them.
fahal
Then would
ʿasaytum
you perhaps
in
if
tawallaytum
you are given authority
an
that
tuf'sidū
you cause corruption
fī
in
l-arḍi
the earth
watuqaṭṭiʿū
and cut off
arḥāmakum
your ties of kinship
۝٢٢
So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?
ulāika
Those
alladhīna
(are) the ones
laʿanahumu
Allah has cursed them
l-lahu
Allah has cursed them
fa-aṣammahum
so He made them deaf
wa-aʿmā
and blinded
abṣārahum
their vision
۝٢٣
Those [who do so] are the ones that Allāh has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.
afalā
Then do not
yatadabbarūna
they ponder
l-qur'āna
(over) the Quran
am
or
ʿalā
upon
qulūbin
(their) hearts
aqfāluhā
(are) locks
۝٢٤
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?
inna
Indeed
alladhīna
those who
ir'taddū
return
ʿalā
on
adbārihim
their backs
min
after
baʿdi
after
mā
what
tabayyana
(has) become clear
lahumu
to them
l-hudā
(of) the guidance
l-shayṭānu
Shaitaan
sawwala
enticed
lahum
[for] them
wa-amlā
and prolonged hope
lahum
for them
۝٢٥
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them.
dhālika
That
bi-annahum
(is) because they
qālū
[they] said
lilladhīna
to those who
karihū
hate
mā
what
nazzala
Allah has revealed
l-lahu
Allah has revealed
sanuṭīʿukum
We will obey you
fī
in
baʿḍi
part
l-amri
(of) the matter
wal-lahu
But Allah
yaʿlamu
knows
is'rārahum
their secrets
۝٢٦
That is because they said to those who disliked what Allāh sent down, "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allāh knows what they conceal.
fakayfa
Then how
idhā
when
tawaffathumu
take them in death
l-malāikatu
the Angels
yaḍribūna
striking
wujūhahum
their faces
wa-adbārahum
and their backs
۝٢٧
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?
dhālika
That
bi-annahumu
(is) because they
ittabaʿū
followed
mā
what
askhaṭa
angered
l-laha
Allah
wakarihū
and hated
riḍ'wānahu
His pleasure
fa-aḥbaṭa
so He made worthless
aʿmālahum
their deeds
۝٢٨
That is because they followed what angered Allāh and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
am
Or do
ḥasiba
think
alladhīna
those who
fī
in
qulūbihim
their hearts
maraḍun
(is) a disease
an
that
lan
never
yukh'rija
will Allah bring forth
l-lahu
will Allah bring forth
aḍghānahum
their hatred
۝٢٩
Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allāh would never expose their [feelings of] hatred?
walaw
And if
nashāu
We willed
la-araynākahum
surely, We could show them to you
falaʿaraftahum
and you would know them
bisīmāhum
by their marks
walataʿrifannahum
but surely, you will know them
fī
by
laḥni
(the) tone
l-qawli
(of their) speech
wal-lahu
And Allah
yaʿlamu
knows
aʿmālakum
your deeds
۝٣٠
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allāh knows your deeds.
walanabluwannakum
And surely We will test you
ḥattā
until
naʿlama
We make evident
l-mujāhidīna
those who strive
minkum
among you
wal-ṣābirīna
and the patient ones
wanabluwā
and We will test
akhbārakum
your affairs
۝٣١
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allāh] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.
inna
Indeed
alladhīna
those who
kafarū
disbelieve
waṣaddū
and turn away
ʿan
from
sabīli
(the) way of Allah
l-lahi
(the) way of Allah
washāqqū
and oppose
l-rasūla
the Messenger
min
after
baʿdi
after
mā
[what]
tabayyana
(has been) made clear
lahumu
to them
l-hudā
the guidance
lan
never
yaḍurrū
will they harm
l-laha
Allah
shayan
(in) anything
wasayuḥ'biṭu
and He will make worthless
aʿmālahum
their deeds
۝٣٢
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allāh at all, and He will render worthless their deeds.
yāayyuhā
O you who believe
alladhīna
O you who believe
āmanū
O you who believe
aṭīʿū
Obey
l-laha
Allah
wa-aṭīʿū
and obey
l-rasūla
the Messenger
walā
and (do) not
tub'ṭilū
make vain
aʿmālakum
your deeds
۝٣٣
O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.
inna
Indeed
alladhīna
those who
kafarū
disbelieve
waṣaddū
and turn away
ʿan
from
sabīli
(the) way
l-lahi
(of) Allah
thumma
then
mātū
died
wahum
while they
kuffārun
(were) disbelievers
falan
never
yaghfira
will Allah forgive
l-lahu
will Allah forgive
lahum
them
۝٣٤
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allāh and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allāh forgive them.
falā
So (do) not
tahinū
weaken
watadʿū
and call
ilā
for
l-salmi
peace
wa-antumu
while you
l-aʿlawna
(are) superior
wal-lahu
and Allah
maʿakum
(is) with you
walan
and never
yatirakum
will deprive you
aʿmālakum
(of) your deeds
۝٣٥
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allāh is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds.
innamā
Only
l-ḥayatu
the life
l-dun'yā
(of) the world
laʿibun
(is) play
walahwun
and amusement
wa-in
And if
tu'minū
you believe
watattaqū
and fear (Allah)
yu'tikum
He will give you
ujūrakum
your rewards
walā
and not
yasalkum
will ask you
amwālakum
(for) your wealth
۝٣٦
[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allāh, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties.
in
If
yasalkumūhā
He were to ask you for it
fayuḥ'fikum
and press you
tabkhalū
you will withhold
wayukh'rij
and He will bring forth
aḍghānakum
your hatred
۝٣٧
If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your hatred [i.e., unwillingness].
hāantum
Here you are
hāulāi
these
tud'ʿawna
called
litunfiqū
to spend
fī
in
sabīli
(the) way
l-lahi
(of) Allah
faminkum
but among you
man
(are some) who
yabkhalu
withhold
waman
and whoever
yabkhal
withholds
fa-innamā
then only
yabkhalu
he withholds
ʿan
from
nafsihi
himself
wal-lahu
But Allah
l-ghaniyu
(is) Free of need
wa-antumu
while you
l-fuqarāu
(are) the needy
wa-in
And if
tatawallaw
you turn away
yastabdil
He will replace you
qawman
(with) a people
ghayrakum
other than you
thumma
then
lā
not
yakūnū
they will be
amthālakum
(the) likes of you
۝٣٨
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allāh - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allāh is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away [i.e., refuse], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
