بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
لَيْسَlaysa
Not لِوَقْعَتِهَاliwaqʿatihā
at its occurrence كَاذِبَةٌkādhibatun
a denial ٢
Not لِوَقْعَتِهَاliwaqʿatihā
at its occurrence كَاذِبَةٌkādhibatun
a denial ٢
There is, at its occurrence, no denial.
خَافِضَةٌۭkhāfiḍatun
Bringing down رَّافِعَةٌrāfiʿatun
raising up ٣
Bringing down رَّافِعَةٌrāfiʿatun
raising up ٣
It will bring down [some] and raise up [others].
إِذَاidhā
When رُجَّتِrujjati
will be shaken ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍu
the earth رَجًّۭاrajjan
(with) a shaking ٤
When رُجَّتِrujjati
will be shaken ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍu
the earth رَجًّۭاrajjan
(with) a shaking ٤
When the earth is shaken with convulsion
وَبُسَّتِwabussati
And will be crumbled ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibālu
the mountains بَسًّۭاbassan
(with awful) crumbling ٥
And will be crumbled ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibālu
the mountains بَسًّۭاbassan
(with awful) crumbling ٥
And the mountains are broken down, crumbling
فَكَانَتْfakānat
So they become هَبَآءًۭhabāan
dust particles مُّنۢبَثًّۭاmunbathan
dispersing ٦
So they become هَبَآءًۭhabāan
dust particles مُّنۢبَثًّۭاmunbathan
dispersing ٦
And become dust dispersing,
وَكُنتُمْwakuntum
And you will become أَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājan
kinds ثَلَـٰثَةًۭthalāthatan
three ٧
And you will become أَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājan
kinds ثَلَـٰثَةًۭthalāthatan
three ٧
And you become [of] three kinds:
فَأَصْحَـٰبُfa-aṣḥābu
Then (the) companions ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati
(of) the right مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati
(of) the right ٨
Then (the) companions ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati
(of) the right مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِl-maymanati
(of) the right ٨
Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
وَأَصْحَـٰبُwa-aṣḥābu
And (the) companions ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-mashamati
(of) the left مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-mashamati
(of) the left ٩
And (the) companions ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-mashamati
(of) the left مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِl-mashamati
(of) the left ٩
And the companions of the left - what are companions of the left?
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَwal-sābiqūna
And the foremost ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَl-sābiqūna
(are) the foremost ١٠
And the foremost ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَl-sābiqūna
(are) the foremost ١٠
And the forerunners, the forerunners -
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāika
Those ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَl-muqarabūna
(are) the nearest ones ١١
Those ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَl-muqarabūna
(are) the nearest ones ١١
Those are the ones brought near [to Allāh]
فِىfī
In جَنَّـٰتِjannāti
Gardens ٱلنَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi
(of) Pleasure ١٢
In جَنَّـٰتِjannāti
Gardens ٱلنَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi
(of) Pleasure ١٢
In the Gardens of Pleasure,
ثُلَّةٌۭthullatun
A company مِّنَmina
of ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former (people) ١٣
A company مِّنَmina
of ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former (people) ١٣
A [large] company of the former peoples
وَقَلِيلٌۭwaqalīlun
And a few مِّنَmina
of ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna
the later (people) ١٤
And a few مِّنَmina
of ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna
the later (people) ١٤
And a few of the later peoples,
عَلَىٰʿalā
On سُرُرٍۢsururin
thrones مَّوْضُونَةٍۢmawḍūnatin
decorated ١٥
On سُرُرٍۢsururin
thrones مَّوْضُونَةٍۢmawḍūnatin
decorated ١٥
On thrones woven [with ornament],
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīna
Reclining عَلَيْهَاʿalayhā
on them مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَmutaqābilīna
facing each other ١٦
Reclining عَلَيْهَاʿalayhā
on them مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَmutaqābilīna
facing each other ١٦
Reclining on them, facing each other.
يَطُوفُyaṭūfu
Will circulate عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim
among them وِلْدَٰنٌۭwil'dānun
boys مُّخَلَّدُونَmukhalladūna
immortal ١٧
Will circulate عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhim
among them وِلْدَٰنٌۭwil'dānun
boys مُّخَلَّدُونَmukhalladūna
immortal ١٧
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal.
بِأَكْوَابٍۢbi-akwābin
With vessels وَأَبَارِيقَwa-abārīqa
and jugs وَكَأْسٍۢwakasin
and a cup مِّنmin
from مَّعِينٍۢmaʿīnin
a flowing stream ١٨
With vessels وَأَبَارِيقَwa-abārīqa
and jugs وَكَأْسٍۢwakasin
and a cup مِّنmin
from مَّعِينٍۢmaʿīnin
a flowing stream ١٨
With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -
لَّاlā
Not يُصَدَّعُونَyuṣaddaʿūna
they will get headache عَنْهَاʿanhā
therefrom وَلَاwalā
and not يُنزِفُونَyunzifūna
they will get intoxicated ١٩
Not يُصَدَّعُونَyuṣaddaʿūna
they will get headache عَنْهَاʿanhā
therefrom وَلَاwalā
and not يُنزِفُونَyunzifūna
they will get intoxicated ١٩
No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍۢwafākihatin
And fruits مِّمَّاmimmā
of what يَتَخَيَّرُونَyatakhayyarūna
they select ٢٠
And fruits مِّمَّاmimmā
of what يَتَخَيَّرُونَyatakhayyarūna
they select ٢٠
And fruit of what they select
وَلَحْمِwalaḥmi
And (the) flesh طَيْرٍۢṭayrin
(of) fowls مِّمَّاmimmā
of what يَشْتَهُونَyashtahūna
they desire ٢١
And (the) flesh طَيْرٍۢṭayrin
(of) fowls مِّمَّاmimmā
of what يَشْتَهُونَyashtahūna
they desire ٢١
And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
وَحُورٌwaḥūrun
And fair ones عِينٌۭʿīnun
(with) large eyes ٢٢
And fair ones عِينٌۭʿīnun
(with) large eyes ٢٢
And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,
كَأَمْثَـٰلِka-amthāli
Like ٱللُّؤْلُؤِl-lu'lu-i
pearls ٱلْمَكْنُونِl-maknūni
well-protected ٢٣
Like ٱللُّؤْلُؤِl-lu'lu-i
pearls ٱلْمَكْنُونِl-maknūni
well-protected ٢٣
The likenesses of pearls well-protected,
جَزَآءًۢjazāan
A reward بِمَاbimā
for what كَانُوا۟kānū
they used (to) يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūna
do ٢٤
A reward بِمَاbimā
for what كَانُوا۟kānū
they used (to) يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūna
do ٢٤
As reward for what they used to do.
لَاlā
Not يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūna
they will hear فِيهَاfīhā
therein لَغْوًۭاlaghwan
vain talk وَلَاwalā
and not تَأْثِيمًاtathīman
sinful (speech) ٢٥
Not يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūna
they will hear فِيهَاfīhā
therein لَغْوًۭاlaghwan
vain talk وَلَاwalā
and not تَأْثِيمًاtathīman
sinful (speech) ٢٥
They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -
إِلَّاillā
Except قِيلًۭاqīlan
a saying سَلَـٰمًۭاsalāman
Peace سَلَـٰمًۭاsalāman
Peace ٢٦
Except قِيلًۭاqīlan
a saying سَلَـٰمًۭاsalāman
Peace سَلَـٰمًۭاsalāman
Peace ٢٦
Only a saying [of] peace, peace.
وَأَصْحَـٰبُwa-aṣḥābu
And (the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٢٧
And (the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٢٧
The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
فِىfī
Among سِدْرٍۢsid'rin
lote trees مَّخْضُودٍۢmakhḍūdin
thornless ٢٨
Among سِدْرٍۢsid'rin
lote trees مَّخْضُودٍۢmakhḍūdin
thornless ٢٨
[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed.
وَطَلْحٍۢwaṭalḥin
And banana trees مَّنضُودٍۢmanḍūdin
layered ٢٩
And banana trees مَّنضُودٍۢmanḍūdin
layered ٢٩
And [banana] trees layered [with fruit].
وَظِلٍّۢwaẓillin
And shade مَّمْدُودٍۢmamdūdin
extended ٣٠
And shade مَّمْدُودٍۢmamdūdin
extended ٣٠
And shade extended.
وَمَآءٍۢwamāin
And water مَّسْكُوبٍۢmaskūbin
poured forth ٣١
And water مَّسْكُوبٍۢmaskūbin
poured forth ٣١
And water poured out
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍۢwafākihatin
And fruit كَثِيرَةٍۢkathīratin
abundant ٣٢
And fruit كَثِيرَةٍۢkathīratin
abundant ٣٢
And fruit, abundant [and varied],
لَّاlā
Not مَقْطُوعَةٍۢmaqṭūʿatin
limited وَلَاwalā
and not مَمْنُوعَةٍۢmamnūʿatin
forbidden ٣٣
Not مَقْطُوعَةٍۢmaqṭūʿatin
limited وَلَاwalā
and not مَمْنُوعَةٍۢmamnūʿatin
forbidden ٣٣
Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden,
وَفُرُشٍۢwafurushin
And (on) couches مَّرْفُوعَةٍmarfūʿatin
raised ٣٤
And (on) couches مَّرْفُوعَةٍmarfūʿatin
raised ٣٤
And [upon] beds raised high.
إِنَّآinnā
Indeed, We أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّanshanāhunna
[We] have produced them إِنشَآءًۭinshāan
(into) a creation ٣٥
Indeed, We أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّanshanāhunna
[We] have produced them إِنشَآءًۭinshāan
(into) a creation ٣٥
Indeed, We have produced them [i.e., the women of Paradise] in a [new] creation
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّfajaʿalnāhunna
And We have made them أَبْكَارًاabkāran
virgins ٣٦
And We have made them أَبْكَارًاabkāran
virgins ٣٦
And made them virgins,
عُرُبًاʿuruban
Devoted أَتْرَابًۭاatrāban
equals in age ٣٧
Devoted أَتْرَابًۭاatrāban
equals in age ٣٧
Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِli-aṣḥābi
For (the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٣٨
For (the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٣٨
For the companions of the right [who are]
ثُلَّةٌۭthullatun
A company مِّنَmina
of ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former people ٣٩
A company مِّنَmina
of ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former people ٣٩
A company of the former peoples
وَثُلَّةٌۭwathullatun
And a company مِّنَmina
of ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna
the later people ٤٠
And a company مِّنَmina
of ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna
the later people ٤٠
And a company of the later peoples.
وَأَصْحَـٰبُwa-aṣḥābu
And (the) companions ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimāli
(of) the left مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimāli
(of) the left ٤١
And (the) companions ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimāli
(of) the left مَآmā
what أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu
(are the) companions ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimāli
(of) the left ٤١
And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?
فِىfī
In سَمُومٍۢsamūmin
scorching fire وَحَمِيمٍۢwaḥamīmin
and scalding water ٤٢
In سَمُومٍۢsamūmin
scorching fire وَحَمِيمٍۢwaḥamīmin
and scalding water ٤٢
[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water
وَظِلٍّۢwaẓillin
And a shade مِّنmin
of يَحْمُومٍۢyaḥmūmin
black smoke ٤٣
And a shade مِّنmin
of يَحْمُومٍۢyaḥmūmin
black smoke ٤٣
And a shade of black smoke,
لَّاlā
Not بَارِدٍۢbāridin
cool وَلَاwalā
and not كَرِيمٍkarīmin
pleasant ٤٤
Not بَارِدٍۢbāridin
cool وَلَاwalā
and not كَرِيمٍkarīmin
pleasant ٤٤
Neither cool nor beneficial.
إِنَّهُمْinnahum
Indeed, they كَانُوا۟kānū
were قَبْلَqabla
before ذَٰلِكَdhālika
that مُتْرَفِينَmut'rafīna
indulging in affluence ٤٥
Indeed, they كَانُوا۟kānū
were قَبْلَqabla
before ذَٰلِكَdhālika
that مُتْرَفِينَmut'rafīna
indulging in affluence ٤٥
Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,
وَكَانُوا۟wakānū
And were يُصِرُّونَyuṣirrūna
persisting عَلَىʿalā
in ٱلْحِنثِl-ḥinthi
the sin ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi
the great ٤٦
And were يُصِرُّونَyuṣirrūna
persisting عَلَىʿalā
in ٱلْحِنثِl-ḥinthi
the sin ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi
the great ٤٦
And they used to persist in the great violation,
وَكَانُوا۟wakānū
And they used (to) يَقُولُونَyaqūlūna
say أَئِذَاa-idhā
When مِتْنَاmit'nā
we die وَكُنَّاwakunnā
and become تُرَابًۭاturāban
dust وَعِظَـٰمًاwaʿiẓāman
and bones أَءِنَّاa-innā
will we لَمَبْعُوثُونَlamabʿūthūna
surely be resurrected ٤٧
And they used (to) يَقُولُونَyaqūlūna
say أَئِذَاa-idhā
When مِتْنَاmit'nā
we die وَكُنَّاwakunnā
and become تُرَابًۭاturāban
dust وَعِظَـٰمًاwaʿiẓāman
and bones أَءِنَّاa-innā
will we لَمَبْعُوثُونَlamabʿūthūna
surely be resurrected ٤٧
And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَاawaābāunā
And also our fathers ٱلْأَوَّلُونَl-awalūna
former ٤٨
And also our fathers ٱلْأَوَّلُونَl-awalūna
former ٤٨
And our forefathers [as well]?"
قُلْqul
Say إِنَّinna
Indeed ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَwal-ākhirīna
and the later people ٤٩
Say إِنَّinna
Indeed ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna
the former وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَwal-ākhirīna
and the later people ٤٩
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, the former and later peoples
لَمَجْمُوعُونَlamajmūʿūna
Surely, will be gathered إِلَىٰilā
for مِيقَـٰتِmīqāti
(the) appointment يَوْمٍۢyawmin
(of) a Day مَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūmin
well-known ٥٠
Surely, will be gathered إِلَىٰilā
for مِيقَـٰتِmīqāti
(the) appointment يَوْمٍۢyawmin
(of) a Day مَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūmin
well-known ٥٠
Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."
ثُمَّthumma
Then إِنَّكُمْinnakum
indeed you أَيُّهَاayyuhā
O those astray ٱلضَّآلُّونَl-ḍālūna
O those astray ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَl-mukadhibūna
the deniers ٥١
Then إِنَّكُمْinnakum
indeed you أَيُّهَاayyuhā
O those astray ٱلضَّآلُّونَl-ḍālūna
O those astray ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَl-mukadhibūna
the deniers ٥١
Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,
لَـَٔاكِلُونَlaākilūna
Will surely eat مِنmin
from شَجَرٍۢshajarin
(the) tree مِّنmin
of زَقُّومٍۢzaqqūmin
Zaqqum ٥٢
Will surely eat مِنmin
from شَجَرٍۢshajarin
(the) tree مِّنmin
of زَقُّومٍۢzaqqūmin
Zaqqum ٥٢
Will be eating from trees of zaqqūm
فَمَالِـُٔونَfamāliūna
Then will fill مِنْهَاmin'hā
with it ٱلْبُطُونَl-buṭūna
the bellies ٥٣
Then will fill مِنْهَاmin'hā
with it ٱلْبُطُونَl-buṭūna
the bellies ٥٣
And filling with it your bellies
فَشَـٰرِبُونَfashāribūna
And drink عَلَيْهِʿalayhi
over it مِنَmina
[from] ٱلْحَمِيمِl-ḥamīmi
the scalding water ٥٤
And drink عَلَيْهِʿalayhi
over it مِنَmina
[from] ٱلْحَمِيمِl-ḥamīmi
the scalding water ٥٤
And drinking on top of it from scalding water.
فَشَـٰرِبُونَfashāribūna
And will drink شُرْبَshur'ba
(as) drinking ٱلْهِيمِl-hīmi
(of) the thirsty camels ٥٥
And will drink شُرْبَshur'ba
(as) drinking ٱلْهِيمِl-hīmi
(of) the thirsty camels ٥٥
And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.
هَـٰذَاhādhā
This نُزُلُهُمْnuzuluhum
(is) their hospitality يَوْمَyawma
(on the) Day ٱلدِّينِl-dīni
(of) Judgment ٥٦
This نُزُلُهُمْnuzuluhum
(is) their hospitality يَوْمَyawma
(on the) Day ٱلدِّينِl-dīni
(of) Judgment ٥٦
That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.
نَحْنُnaḥnu
We خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْkhalaqnākum
[We] created you فَلَوْلَاfalawlā
so why (do) not تُصَدِّقُونَtuṣaddiqūna
you admit the truth ٥٧
We خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْkhalaqnākum
[We] created you فَلَوْلَاfalawlā
so why (do) not تُصَدِّقُونَtuṣaddiqūna
you admit the truth ٥٧
We have created you, so why do you not believe?
أَفَرَءَيْتُمafara-aytum
Do you see مَّاmā
what تُمْنُونَtum'nūna
you emit ٥٨
Do you see مَّاmā
what تُمْنُونَtum'nūna
you emit ٥٨
Have you seen that which you emit?
ءَأَنتُمْa-antum
Is it you تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓtakhluqūnahu
who create it أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
(are) We ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَl-khāliqūna
the Creators ٥٩
Is it you تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓtakhluqūnahu
who create it أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
(are) We ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَl-khāliqūna
the Creators ٥٩
Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?
نَحْنُnaḥnu
We قَدَّرْنَاqaddarnā
[We] have decreed بَيْنَكُمُbaynakumu
among you ٱلْمَوْتَl-mawta
the death وَمَاwamā
and not نَحْنُnaḥnu
We بِمَسْبُوقِينَbimasbūqīna
(are) outrun ٦٠
We قَدَّرْنَاqaddarnā
[We] have decreed بَيْنَكُمُbaynakumu
among you ٱلْمَوْتَl-mawta
the death وَمَاwamā
and not نَحْنُnaḥnu
We بِمَسْبُوقِينَbimasbūqīna
(are) outrun ٦٠
We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone
عَلَىٰٓʿalā
In أَنan
that نُّبَدِّلَnubaddila
We (will) change أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْamthālakum
your likeness[es] وَنُنشِئَكُمْwanunshi-akum
and produce you فِىfī
in مَاmā
what لَاlā
not تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna
you know ٦١
In أَنan
that نُّبَدِّلَnubaddila
We (will) change أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْamthālakum
your likeness[es] وَنُنشِئَكُمْwanunshi-akum
and produce you فِىfī
in مَاmā
what لَاlā
not تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna
you know ٦١
In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.
وَلَقَدْwalaqad
And certainly عَلِمْتُمُʿalim'tumu
you know ٱلنَّشْأَةَl-nashata
the creation ٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlā
the first فَلَوْلَاfalawlā
so why not تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūna
you take heed ٦٢
And certainly عَلِمْتُمُʿalim'tumu
you know ٱلنَّشْأَةَl-nashata
the creation ٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlā
the first فَلَوْلَاfalawlā
so why not تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūna
you take heed ٦٢
And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?
أَفَرَءَيْتُمafara-aytum
And do you see مَّاmā
what تَحْرُثُونَtaḥruthūna
you sow ٦٣
And do you see مَّاmā
what تَحْرُثُونَtaḥruthūna
you sow ٦٣
And have you seen that [seed] which you sow?
ءَأَنتُمْa-antum
Is it you (who) تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓtazraʿūnahu
cause it to grow أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
(are) We ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَl-zāriʿūna
the Ones Who grow ٦٤
Is it you (who) تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓtazraʿūnahu
cause it to grow أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
(are) We ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَl-zāriʿūna
the Ones Who grow ٦٤
Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?
لَوْlaw
If نَشَآءُnashāu
We willed لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُlajaʿalnāhu
We (would) surely, make it حُطَـٰمًۭاḥuṭāman
debris فَظَلْتُمْfaẓaltum
then you would remain تَفَكَّهُونَtafakkahūna
wondering ٦٥
If نَشَآءُnashāu
We willed لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُlajaʿalnāhu
We (would) surely, make it حُطَـٰمًۭاḥuṭāman
debris فَظَلْتُمْfaẓaltum
then you would remain تَفَكَّهُونَtafakkahūna
wondering ٦٥
If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder,
إِنَّاinnā
Indeed, we لَمُغْرَمُونَlamugh'ramūna
surely are laden with debt ٦٦
Indeed, we لَمُغْرَمُونَlamugh'ramūna
surely are laden with debt ٦٦
[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt;
بَلْbal
Nay نَحْنُnaḥnu
we مَحْرُومُونَmaḥrūmūna
(are) deprived ٦٧
Nay نَحْنُnaḥnu
we مَحْرُومُونَmaḥrūmūna
(are) deprived ٦٧
Rather, we have been deprived."
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُafara-aytumu
Do you see ٱلْمَآءَl-māa
the water ٱلَّذِىalladhī
which تَشْرَبُونَtashrabūna
you drink ٦٨
Do you see ٱلْمَآءَl-māa
the water ٱلَّذِىalladhī
which تَشْرَبُونَtashrabūna
you drink ٦٨
And have you seen the water that you drink?
ءَأَنتُمْa-antum
Is it you أَنزَلْتُمُوهُanzaltumūhu
who send it down مِنَmina
from ٱلْمُزْنِl-muz'ni
the rain clouds أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
We ٱلْمُنزِلُونَl-munzilūna
(are) the Ones to send ٦٩
Is it you أَنزَلْتُمُوهُanzaltumūhu
who send it down مِنَmina
from ٱلْمُزْنِl-muz'ni
the rain clouds أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
We ٱلْمُنزِلُونَl-munzilūna
(are) the Ones to send ٦٩
Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
لَوْlaw
If نَشَآءُnashāu
We willed جَعَلْنَـٰهُjaʿalnāhu
We (could) make it أُجَاجًۭاujājan
salty فَلَوْلَاfalawlā
then why are you not grateful تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūna
then why are you not grateful ٧٠
If نَشَآءُnashāu
We willed جَعَلْنَـٰهُjaʿalnāhu
We (could) make it أُجَاجًۭاujājan
salty فَلَوْلَاfalawlā
then why are you not grateful تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūna
then why are you not grateful ٧٠
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُafara-aytumu
Do you see ٱلنَّارَl-nāra
the Fire ٱلَّتِىallatī
which تُورُونَtūrūna
you ignite ٧١
Do you see ٱلنَّارَl-nāra
the Fire ٱلَّتِىallatī
which تُورُونَtūrūna
you ignite ٧١
And have you seen the fire that you ignite?
ءَأَنتُمْa-antum
Is it you أَنشَأْتُمْanshatum
who produced شَجَرَتَهَآshajaratahā
its tree أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
We ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَl-munshiūna
(are) the Producers ٧٢
Is it you أَنشَأْتُمْanshatum
who produced شَجَرَتَهَآshajaratahā
its tree أَمْam
or نَحْنُnaḥnu
We ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَl-munshiūna
(are) the Producers ٧٢
Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?
نَحْنُnaḥnu
We جَعَلْنَـٰهَاjaʿalnāhā
have made it تَذْكِرَةًۭtadhkiratan
a reminder وَمَتَـٰعًۭاwamatāʿan
and a provision لِّلْمُقْوِينَlil'muq'wīna
for the wayfarers in the desert ٧٣
We جَعَلْنَـٰهَاjaʿalnāhā
have made it تَذْكِرَةًۭtadhkiratan
a reminder وَمَتَـٰعًۭاwamatāʿan
and a provision لِّلْمُقْوِينَlil'muq'wīna
for the wayfarers in the desert ٧٣
We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,
فَسَبِّحْfasabbiḥ
So glorify بِٱسْمِbi-is'mi
(the) name رَبِّكَrabbika
(of) your Lord ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi
the Most Great ٧٤
So glorify بِٱسْمِbi-is'mi
(the) name رَبِّكَrabbika
(of) your Lord ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi
the Most Great ٧٤
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
۞ فَلَآfalā
But nay أُقْسِمُuq'simu
I swear بِمَوَٰقِعِbimawāqiʿi
by setting ٱلنُّجُومِl-nujūmi
(of) the stars ٧٥
But nay أُقْسِمُuq'simu
I swear بِمَوَٰقِعِbimawāqiʿi
by setting ٱلنُّجُومِl-nujūmi
(of) the stars ٧٥
Then I swear by the setting of the stars,
وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahu
And indeed, it لَقَسَمٌۭlaqasamun
(is) surely an oath لَّوْlaw
if تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna
you know عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmun
great ٧٦
And indeed, it لَقَسَمٌۭlaqasamun
(is) surely an oath لَّوْlaw
if تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūna
you know عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmun
great ٧٦
And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.
إِنَّهُۥinnahu
Indeed, it لَقُرْءَانٌۭlaqur'ānun
(is) surely, a Quran كَرِيمٌۭkarīmun
noble ٧٧
Indeed, it لَقُرْءَانٌۭlaqur'ānun
(is) surely, a Quran كَرِيمٌۭkarīmun
noble ٧٧
Indeed, it is a noble Qur’ān.
فِىfī
In كِتَـٰبٍۢkitābin
a Book مَّكْنُونٍۢmaknūnin
well-guarded ٧٨
In كِتَـٰبٍۢkitābin
a Book مَّكْنُونٍۢmaknūnin
well-guarded ٧٨
In a Register well-protected;.
لَّاlā
None يَمَسُّهُۥٓyamassuhu
touch it إِلَّاillā
except ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَl-muṭaharūna
the purified ٧٩
None يَمَسُّهُۥٓyamassuhu
touch it إِلَّاillā
except ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَl-muṭaharūna
the purified ٧٩
None touch it except the purified [i.e., the angels].
تَنزِيلٌۭtanzīlun
A Revelation مِّنmin
from رَّبِّrabbi
(the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds ٨٠
A Revelation مِّنmin
from رَّبِّrabbi
(the) Lord ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna
(of) the worlds ٨٠
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
أَفَبِهَـٰذَاafabihādhā
Then is it to this ٱلْحَدِيثِl-ḥadīthi
statement أَنتُمantum
that you مُّدْهِنُونَmud'hinūna
(are) indifferent ٨١
Then is it to this ٱلْحَدِيثِl-ḥadīthi
statement أَنتُمantum
that you مُّدْهِنُونَmud'hinūna
(are) indifferent ٨١
Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent
وَتَجْعَلُونَwatajʿalūna
And you make رِزْقَكُمْriz'qakum
your provision أَنَّكُمْannakum
that you تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūna
deny ٨٢
And you make رِزْقَكُمْriz'qakum
your provision أَنَّكُمْannakum
that you تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūna
deny ٨٢
And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?
فَلَوْلَآfalawlā
Then why not إِذَاidhā
when بَلَغَتِbalaghati
it reaches ٱلْحُلْقُومَl-ḥul'qūma
the throat ٨٣
Then why not إِذَاidhā
when بَلَغَتِbalaghati
it reaches ٱلْحُلْقُومَl-ḥul'qūma
the throat ٨٣
Then why, when it [i.e., the soul at death] reaches the throat
وَأَنتُمْwa-antum
And you حِينَئِذٍۢḥīna-idhin
(at) that time تَنظُرُونَtanẓurūna
look on ٨٤
And you حِينَئِذٍۢḥīna-idhin
(at) that time تَنظُرُونَtanẓurūna
look on ٨٤
And you are at that time looking on -
وَنَحْنُwanaḥnu
And We أَقْرَبُaqrabu
(are) nearer إِلَيْهِilayhi
to him مِنكُمْminkum
than you وَلَـٰكِنwalākin
but لَّاlā
you (do) not see تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūna
you (do) not see ٨٥
And We أَقْرَبُaqrabu
(are) nearer إِلَيْهِilayhi
to him مِنكُمْminkum
than you وَلَـٰكِنwalākin
but لَّاlā
you (do) not see تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūna
you (do) not see ٨٥
And We [i.e., Our angels] are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -
فَلَوْلَآfalawlā
Then why not إِنin
if كُنتُمْkuntum
you are غَيْرَghayra
not مَدِينِينَmadīnīna
to be recompensed ٨٦
Then why not إِنin
if كُنتُمْkuntum
you are غَيْرَghayra
not مَدِينِينَmadīnīna
to be recompensed ٨٦
Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,
تَرْجِعُونَهَآtarjiʿūnahā
Bring it back إِنin
if كُنتُمْkuntum
you are صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīna
truthful ٨٧
Bring it back إِنin
if كُنتُمْkuntum
you are صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīna
truthful ٨٧
Bring it back, if you should be truthful?
فَأَمَّآfa-ammā
Then إِنin
if كَانَkāna
he was مِنَmina
of ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَl-muqarabīna
those brought near ٨٨
Then إِنin
if كَانَkāna
he was مِنَmina
of ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَl-muqarabīna
those brought near ٨٨
And if he [i.e., the deceased] was of those brought near [to Allāh],
فَرَوْحٌۭfarawḥun
Then rest وَرَيْحَانٌۭwarayḥānun
and bounty وَجَنَّتُwajannatu
and a Garden نَعِيمٍۢnaʿīmin
(of) Pleasure ٨٩
Then rest وَرَيْحَانٌۭwarayḥānun
and bounty وَجَنَّتُwajannatu
and a Garden نَعِيمٍۢnaʿīmin
(of) Pleasure ٨٩
Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.
وَأَمَّآwa-ammā
And إِنin
if كَانَkāna
he was مِنْmin
of أَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi
(the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٩٠
And إِنin
if كَانَkāna
he was مِنْmin
of أَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi
(the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٩٠
And if he was of the companions of the right,
فَسَلَـٰمٌۭfasalāmun
Then, peace لَّكَlaka
for you مِنْmin
[from] أَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi
(the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٩١
Then, peace لَّكَlaka
for you مِنْmin
[from] أَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi
(the) companions ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīni
(of) the right ٩١
Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."
وَأَمَّآwa-ammā
But إِنin
if كَانَkāna
he was مِنَmina
of ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَl-mukadhibīna
the deniers ٱلضَّآلِّينَl-ḍālīna
the astray ٩٢
But إِنin
if كَانَkāna
he was مِنَmina
of ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَl-mukadhibīna
the deniers ٱلضَّآلِّينَl-ḍālīna
the astray ٩٢
But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,
فَنُزُلٌۭfanuzulun
Then, hospitality مِّنْmin
of حَمِيمٍۢḥamīmin
(the) scalding water ٩٣
Then, hospitality مِّنْmin
of حَمِيمٍۢḥamīmin
(the) scalding water ٩٣
Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water
وَتَصْلِيَةُwataṣliyatu
And burning جَحِيمٍjaḥīmin
(in) Hellfire ٩٤
And burning جَحِيمٍjaḥīmin
(in) Hellfire ٩٤
And burning in Hellfire.
إِنَّinna
Indeed هَـٰذَاhādhā
this لَهُوَlahuwa
surely, it حَقُّḥaqqu
(is the) truth ٱلْيَقِينِl-yaqīni
certain ٩٥
Indeed هَـٰذَاhādhā
this لَهُوَlahuwa
surely, it حَقُّḥaqqu
(is the) truth ٱلْيَقِينِl-yaqīni
certain ٩٥
Indeed, this is the true certainty,
فَسَبِّحْfasabbiḥ
So glorify بِٱسْمِbi-is'mi
(the) name رَبِّكَrabbika
(of) your Lord ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi
the Most Great ٩٦
So glorify بِٱسْمِbi-is'mi
(the) name رَبِّكَrabbika
(of) your Lord ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi
the Most Great ٩٦
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
