Seven gentle lessons — learn at a human pace
Each lesson pairs something to learn with one character practice. A calm plan, not a checklist to feel guilty about.
Educational, not a fatwa.
No streaks, no scores, no account. Missed a day? Start again from here.
Day 1 — Shahada, wash, rest, Al-Fatihah's meaning
You enter Islam by sincerely bearing witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger. Islam wipes out what came before Sahih Muslim 121.
Practice
- If you have not yet, say the shahada with understanding when your heart is ready — privately or with trusted company.
- Wash (ghusl) when you can; ask a teacher for details that apply to you. needs scholar review
- Rest. Then open Al-Fatihah and read the meaning once.
- Learn the new-Muslim du'a Sahih Muslim 2697a.
Character exercise — Honesty
Today: no “small” lies — not to escape a chore, not to polish a story. If you slip, correct it kindly. At-Tawbah 9:119 Sahih al-Bukhari 6094
Do I need Arabic before I can be Muslim?
Not to understand and enter Islam in your language. For prayer, Al-Fatihah and short phrases are learned gradually; ask a local teacher what to do while learning. Al-Baqarah 2:286 needs scholar review
Day 2 — Learn wudu, gently
Wudu is the washing that prepares you for prayer. Learn it step by step from the wudu diagrams, which mark obligatory, recommended and differing steps.
Practice
- Follow the diagram once, slowly, with water if you can.
- If facilities, mobility or skin make it hard, see purification by situation and note your question for a teacher.
- Afterwards, sit one minute quietly — no rush to “perfect” it today.
Character exercise — Kindness & gentleness
Choose one interaction today — a message, a tone of voice — and make it gentler than usual. Sahih Muslim 2593 Ali 'Imran 3:159
What if I am unsure whether my wudu is valid?
Common for beginners. Repeat the steps calmly once, then ask a teacher rather than looping in anxiety. needs scholar review
Day 3 — Prayer movements; one prayer with a card
Prayer is a pillar Sahih al-Bukhari 8. Today's *lesson* is to learn the movements with the prayer ladder. Studying prayer on “Day 3” does not mean the five prayers begin on Day 3 — ask a teacher what to do now.
Practice
- Read the one-rak'ah flow, then the 2-unit walkthrough.
- Stand and practise the motions once, without stress about perfection.
- If you lose your place, see “What if I mess up?”.
Character exercise — Patience
When frustration rises — pronunciation, noise, your own expectations — pause before reacting. One slow breath. Al-'Asr 103:1-3
May I read from a phone or paper in prayer while learning?
Teachers differ on learning aids for beginners. Follow a trusted local teacher; this site gives no blanket permission or ban. needs scholar review
Day 4 — Al-Fatihah, slowly
Al-Fatihah opens the Qur'an and is recited in every unit of prayer Sahih al-Bukhari 756. Learn it slowly with meaning. The Qur'an reader has human recitation and an optional voice-follow — an aid, not a teacher.
Practice
- Play Al-Fatihah once while reading the meaning.
- Repeat one short phrase until it feels familiar.
- Stop before exhaustion. Tomorrow still exists.
Character exercise — Gradual change, without burnout
Write one sentence: “This week I will only add ___, and I will not shame myself for ___.” The religion is easy Sahih al-Bukhari 39; small consistent deeds are beloved Sahih al-Bukhari 6464.
What if my pronunciation is wrong?
Sincerity and steady learning matter. A teacher corrects gently; apps are helpers only. Avoid anyone who humiliates beginners.
Day 5 — Morning and evening remembrance — even one line
Dhikr is remembrance of Allah. The dhikr page has sourced morning and evening lines and a private counter. Today, even one line counts — the full collection is not a first-day requirement. needs scholar review
Practice
- Pick one morning or evening line with its source.
- Say it once with meaning.
- Optional: use the private counter for a small number you choose — not a public score.
Character exercise — Guarding the tongue
Before sending one message or repeating one story, ask: is it true, needed, kind? If not, leave it.
Do I have to finish the whole morning collection on day one?
No. Build without burnout.
Day 6 — Sira: the first revelation
The Sira is the life of the Prophet ﷺ, told here without depicting him. Read the chapter on the first revelation — guidance began with “Read”.
Practice
- Read that one chapter only.
- Write one sentence: what surprised you?
- Make du'a for guidance in your own words.
Character exercise — Parents — including non-Muslim parents
One kind act or gentle message toward a parent or caregiver, if safe Luqman 31:15 Sahih al-Bukhari 2620. If the relationship is harmful, kindness does not mean enduring abuse — see safety first.
My parents are upset that I became Muslim. Did I fail them?
Disagreement can hurt without meaning you stopped honouring them. Keep appropriate kindness; you do not obey in what contradicts your faith; take hard cases to a balanced teacher. Safety first.
Day 7 — Community contact and rest
A short mosque visit or a call to a welcoming Muslim friend can help — if and when it is safe and possible. It is an option, not a test. Rest is part of the plan. needs scholar review
Practice
- Optional: visit a mosque, or message one welcoming person. Prepare one honest question.
- If community is not accessible yet, stay with this site's tools and plan a later visit.
- Rest. Review Days 1–6 without adding anything new.
Character exercise — Humility
Thank Allah for one thing you learned this week. Thank one person who helped — or forgive yourself for needing help.
What if the mosque felt cold or confusing?
One visit is not the whole community. Try another time or another place, or a new-Muslim circle known for gentleness. You may continue privately while you search.
